SQL: The Core IT Skill as We Move Towards 2012

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 12/14/11 — SQL and SQL Server IT jobs continue to create the highest demand in the industry, according to the findings of the latest monthly update from the UK-s biggest IT jobs site(1), The IT Job Board ().

The company launched the IT Salary Monitor () in November 2011. The first of its kind for the sector, the tool provides a single source of up-to-date regional IT salary data – including salary levels and skills in demand for both contract and permanent jobs.

December-s findings highlight that (as per the previous month), the largest number of permanent jobs is for developers in London (18,817), but finance has taken over as the most popular search term being advertised for contractors – again in London (7,246 roles).

London continues to dominate as the city advertising the most IT jobs, standing at 300,626.

The highest paid permanent salary is for a Senior Applications Designer at up to GBP 200,000, and for a contract role this stands at daily rates of up to GBP 1,126 across a range of skill sets.

Alexandra Farrell, managing director at The IT Job Board, said: “Clearly SQL is a core skill as we move into 2012, and we would anticipate seeing increasing numbers of IT professionals either retraining in this area, or looking to improve on existing skills. It certainly seems to be one to watch.

“And, unsurprisingly London continues to dominate as the place to find IT work – I was particularly interested in the rise seen for contractors on the finance side, again one to look out for in 2012.

“The IT Salary Monitor is free to use and is proving a real success with our client base of recruiters and HR professionals – helping them to understand skills in demand within a specific area.”

Commenting on the IT Salary Monitor, Darryl Shaw, associate director of information technology at the recruitment specialist Murray McIntosh, said: “Any tools that allow consultants to provide real tangible value to the recruitment process in a fast paced competitive market is a real plus. The IT Job Board Salary Monitor does exactly that, providing real time salaries across the UK and across various IT skill sets to benchmark against – an excellent product.”

The IT Salary Monitor also provides a benchmarking tool, including insight into industry trends.
