MALVERN, PA — (Marketwire) — 12/05/11 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its SiR870DP power MOSFET and 34 THE Hall effect sensor have won EDN China 2011 Innovation Awards. At an award ceremony on Dec. 1 in Shanghai, the SiR870DP received a Best Product Award in the Power Device and Module category, while the 34 THE was honored with a Leading Product Award in the Passive Component and Sensor category.
The EDN China Innovation Awards were introduced in 2005 to recognize achievements in the design of ICs and related products in the Chinese market. This year, over 140 products from more than 80 companies entered the competition in nine technology categories. EDN China-s online readers voted to shortlist 50 products for nomination, with a group of technical experts and senior EDN editors selecting the final winners.
Utilizing Vishay-s new ThunderFET® technology, the 100 V SiR870DP offers an industry-low on-resistance of 7.8 milliohms at 4.5 V, in addition to a very low on-resistance of 6 milliohms at 10 V. For designers, the device-s lower on-resistance translates into lower conduction losses and reduced power consumption for energy-saving green solutions.
With its industry-low 208 milliohms-nC on-resistance times gate charge at 4.5 V — a key figure of merit (FOM) for MOSFETs in DC/DC converter applications — the SiR870DP combines low conduction and switching losses for higher frequency and switching applications. The MOSFET-s 4.5 V on-resistance rating allows a wide range of PWM and gate driver ICs to be considered in isolated DC/DC power supply designs for telecom brick and bus converter applications.
For applications in harsh environments requiring long-life sensors, the 34 THE Hall effect sensor is the industry-s first multi-turn sensor to feature non-contact technology. The Hall effect technology of the ten-turns 34 THE gives it the ability to perform in conditions involving high-frequency vibrations up to 20 G and shocks up to 50 G.
This true power-on position sensor offers a very long life of 50 million cycles with a servo mount and 10 million cycles with a bushing mount, which is at least 10 times longer than wirewound multi-turn sensors. The long life of the 34 THE makes it ideal for servo control of steering wheels in marine and off-road applications.
