16 to 19-Year-Olds to Struggle as Education Funding Set to be Cut

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 11/29/11 — It looks likely that 16 to 19-year-olds are set to struggle with education funding due to be cut. Perspective, leading provider of software to the UK education sector, is advising 16 to 19-year-olds to remember viable alternatives to remaining in college and university education.

According to research conducted by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, education spending looks set to be cut by more than 14 percent, the largest cut of funding from the sector since the 1950s. The 16 to 19-year-olds age group is expected to be hit with a 20 percent cut in funding, which is likely to leave many in the age group without the appropriate resources in place.

At a time when youth unemployment is so high, this is a blow to the youth sector. However, even when available resources and funding are being cut, those who lose out on education are reminded that there are other viable options available to continue education. Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to continue education whilst earning on-site experience and a wage, and looking to work towards vocational courses and training enables students to be properly equipped for they reach the 16 to 19 age group.

Paul Davis, managing director of Perspective, said: “The impending education funding cuts are set to hurt the 16 to 19-year-old age groups the hardest. Given that this age group is so important for those looking to continue their education and set themselves up for finding suitable employment once they-ve finished their academic journey it is imperative they look to find alternative ways to continue their learning where possible.”
