TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 11/21/11 — Public Mobile always tries to work with everyone as we build our network to bring affordable, unlimited wireless service to communities in Quebec and Ontario.
Public Mobile has built a network covering approximately 10 million people, comprised of 68 municipalities in Quebec and Ontario. We have NEVER experienced the kind of approach exhibited by the Mayor of Chateauguay.
Last Thursday, Public Mobile met with officials from the City of Chateauguay and were assured that our plan and approach was satisfactory. We are a simple provider of affordable telecom services and we have neither the time nor the inclination to play politics.
Telecommunications is governed by federal jurisdiction and while Public Mobile understands the frustration of the municipality, the company adheres to all federal rules and laws (Industry Canada and Health Canada) related to the design, siting and operation of antennae sites related to our federally licensed and regulated mobile wireless telecommunications business.
We regret that the City of Chateauguay is at odds with the federal laws regarding telecommunications. If and when the laws are changed we will abide by the new laws. Until then we respectfully request that the Mayor do the same and not stand in the way of the citizens of Chateauguay getting affordable wireless services.
Communications are a right that all Canadians are granted under federal laws. Public Mobile looks forward to bringing the people of Chateauguay unlimited wireless services at affordable rates.
With respect to the Mayor-s comments regarding how much more difficult it is to get a permit to build a shed in a Chateauguay backyard, we would like to point out that the federal laws governing telecommunications do not apply to the building of sheds, and the Mayor is fully empowered to allow the good citizens of Chateauguay to build their sheds, as we are allowed to provide telecom services.
