STEVENSVILLE, MD — (Marketwire) — 11/08/11 — In anticipation of a busy holiday shopping season and available jobs, retailers in Greater Washington are using a new technology from JobOn to find and hire candidates. Stores that have signed onto the service include electronics shop Best Buy Mobile, body and hair care product seller Aveda, shoe retailer Clark Stores, Solstice Sunglass Boutique, Fashion Time and Things Remembered.
The stores are taking advantage of the streamlined hiring process that starts with their positions being listed on the JobOn website. Job seekers post recorded video responses to standard interview questions and send their profile to any listed employer. Managers then logon to view candidates- videos and make arrangements for face-to-face meetings.
Says Paul Lombardo of the Maryland chain , “I have a specialized business and need employees with both general and specific areas of expertise. Video applications let applicants actually show the skills that I seek and make my hiring decisions much easier.”
Adds CEO Jody Presti, “For many store managers Black Friday happens all the time because they have lines of customers as well as applicants trying to get their attention. Video improves this because managers direct applicants to the website and review their recorded questions and answers during a less hectic time when they can better focus on them.”
Stores have employee turnover rates of 72 percent or more, partly because hiring for involves a traditional process with walk-in applicants, a paper application and good timing. JobOn-s cloud-based technology improves this by introducing a better process for matching applicants and employers, as well as video.
JobOn combines with the ability for applicants to submit a video application via webcam or smart phone. This simplifies the job-matching process for the nearly 80 million employees and nine million workplaces that hire for retail, restaurants and grocery stores. The results are greater satisfaction for employees, and less turnover and lower costs for employers. This shows how.
