Health Language CMO to Present Insights Into How Medical Terminology Enables Interoperability at 2011 AHIMA Educational Session

DENVER, CO — (Marketwire) — 10/03/11 — (HLI), the global leader in medical terminology management, today announced that its chief medical officer (CMO) and senior vice president, Brian Levy, M.D., will present an educational session discussing the essential role, value and benefits of software in enabling healthcare information technology (HIT) interoperability at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 3rd the , Oct. 1-6, 2011, in Salt Lake City. The company also will showcase three medical terminology solutions at booth #1825.

In his presentation titled, “Leveraging Medical Terminology Management Software to Support Interoperability Initiatives,” Dr. Levy will address how terminology management software can help hospitals and health systems achieve vital HIT interoperability, meet regulatory mandates such as the transition to , exchange data across the care continuum, facilitate clinical data analytics, improve quality and safety, reduce costs and accelerate reimbursement.

“Although healthcare providers are scrambling to comply with a deluge of new requirements that all require the ability to share data and information from and across disparate systems, many hospitals and physician practices are not taking full advantage of medical terminology management tools that can enable the seamless interoperability needed to ease implementation,” Dr. Levy explained. “In addition to supporting seamless interconnectivity and streamlining data exchange among providers, medical terminology management applications enable organizations to standardize and mine clinical information to identify areas where they need to improve clinical performance, reduce errors, develop evidence-based protocols, measure outcomes, save money and ease regulatory compliance.”

Dr. Levy-s presentation will tackle many of the questions that providers have been asking themselves — and him — on a daily basis. For example, he will explore how medical and administrative vocabularies and data mapping tools:

Help providers become more connected inside and outside of their organizations;

Ease the transition to electronic medical records and help providers qualify for meaningful use incentives;

Facilitate recordkeeping and data collection required under the ;

Simplify coding for Medicare-s ;

Map local code sets and legacy IT applications to ICD-10;

Link clinician and consumer-friendly terminologies to ICD-10;

Convert free text from paper and electronic documents into accurate EHR data fields

The anticipated 4,000 AHIMA Conference attendees can learn more about medical terminology management solutions at booth #1825 where HLI will provide hands-on demonstrations of the following interoperability-enabling solutions:

(Language Engine Access Portal I-10) is a web-based, user-friendly, affordable mapping tool that makes it easier for hospitals — and insurers — to prepare for, identify and address the financial, technology and operational impact of transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10.

is a web-based technology that simplifies the mapping, translation and standardization of medical terminologies and code sets. It enables a hospital, physician-s practice or HIT vendor to become fully operational on LEAP within an hour and eliminate the need for facilities to employ a highly skilled medical terminologist for routine medical terminology management functions.

(LE) is HLI-s flagship software platform that has been in production for more than a decade worldwide. LE provides enterprise terminology management services such as standard and custom mapping, modeling, analysis and local content management for more than 100 terminologies including ICD-9 CM, ICD-10 CM, SNOMED, LOINC and RxNorm.

Denver-based Health Language, Inc. (HLI) develops and delivers state-of-the-art software solutions that automatically incorporate medical vocabulary and coding standards into healthcare information technology (HCIT) applications. HLI-s Language Engine (LE) allows centralized access to medical terminology standards and generates mappings to create a common pool of standardized codes and concepts that enhance patient safety, facilitate clinical outcomes analysis and accelerate reimbursement. It also provides standards for modeling, storing, updating and distributing information consistently for interoperability between hospitals, regions and countries.
