EATEL Goes Live With National 4G/LTE Mobile Towers Using Transition Networks- S3240 NID

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — (Marketwire) — 09/22/11 — Transition Networks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: JCS), announced jointly today with EATEL, an innovative and fast-growing independent Telco located in south Louisiana, that its latest Network Interface Devices (NIDs) are now fully operational at some of the first commercial 4G mobile cell towers in Louisiana. Unlike circuit-based 2G/3G mobile switching centers that transport voice and data on two separate networks, 4G is able to send both voice and data together over one IP network. This convergence allows for a reduction in management and operation costs for the carrier while providing bandwidth speed improvements to consumers.

“We are pleased that EATEL has selected our S3240 NID for several of the first 4G mobile backhaul deployments,” said Kevin Faulds, Director of Product Management at Transition Networks. “The S3240 technology provides the latest Carrier Ethernet standards to meet Service Provider demands and wide-scale deployment challenges — all in a cost-effective platform.”

The S3240 is an intelligent network interface device designed to deliver SLA-enabled Ethernet services that include the latest in MEF 9, 14, and 21 Carrier Ethernet Certifications including service performance ITU-Y.1731, link OAM (IEEE 802.3ah) and connectivity fault management IEEE 802.1ag. It can operate in an extended temp range of -10 degrees C to 65 degrees C and offers both AC and/or 18-57Vdc power redundancy. Now fully operational at (7) different Metro-Ethernet 4G towers, with future sites planned — the S3240 is providing E-Line/ E-LAN services to the local EATEL and National Provider networks with a combination of copper and fiber 1G port connections.

“Our mission is to consistently offer exceptional, high quality services which improve the user experience while also maintaining the best possible customer support.” explained Harris Miller, Director of Network Services at EATEL. “After an extensive test and certification approval process with our Providers, we selected Transition Networks- S3240 NID as it had all of the OAM functions we needed and was attractively priced.” Harris added that, “Being the local mobile operator for some of the first commercial 4G deployments in the State, really compliments our commitment to offering the latest improvements in technology.”

For over 75 years, EATEL has remained committed to meeting local consumer needs with the most advanced fiber optic communications network in place today. Located in Gonzales, LA, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, EATEL-s service area encompasses 500 square miles of fiber optics offering one of the only 100% fiber-to-the-home networks in the country for triple play (voice, data, video) and business class Ethernet services.

With over 20 years of growth and expertise in hardware manufacturing, Transition Networks offers the ability to affordably integrate the benefits of fiber optics into any data network — in any application — in any environment. Offering support for multiple protocols, any interface, and a multitude of hardware platforms Transition-s portfolio gives the power to deliver and manage network traffic reliably over fiber. Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Transition Networks distributes hardware-based connectivity solutions exclusively through a network of resellers in over 50 countries. Transition Networks is a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc., a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: JCS).

Statements regarding the Company-s anticipated performance in 2011 are forward-looking and involve risks and uncertainties, including but not limited to: competitive products and other factors discussed from time to time in the Company-s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
