Moers, Germany – 1 October 2009: CAD Schroer Group (CSG), the global engineering solutions provider, today announced the launch of an eSERVICES platform for users of the free MEDUSA4 Personal 2D/3D CAD software, signifying an easy and innovative new licensing concept. Many MEDUSA4 Personal users, aware that the software restricts drawings to non-commercial use, have enquired about the possibility of licensing their work for commercial purposes. CAD Schroer-s response is the launch of an online service which automatically converts drawings into PDF or DXF files, removing restrictive watermarks and granting the license for commercial use.
“The CSG eSERVICES platform was designed to help users for whom the commercial version of the MEDUSA4 software may initially be a little out of reach,” says Managing Director Michael Schroer. “It enables them to use the same professional-grade drafting system, merely paying a small fee for business use of any resulting designs. We especially hope to empower small companies and individual contractors during the start-up period, where every penny counts and CAD software license and maintenance costs may seem prohibitive.”

Responding to a Multitude of Users
CAD Schroer says the CSG eSERVICES website has been designed in response to enquiries from a large variety of users of the free 2D/3D CAD system. MEDUSA4 Personal is being used worldwide for the most diverse projects. There are students who wish to use the software in their research and send a DXF to their professor, or print a design without watermark from a PDF. Many use the software for model engineering and other hobbies, some of which may one day result in patentable inventions, which then require professional output for the registration process. Still others use the software for home or garden layouts, and wish to pass the results on to their architect, or generate a DXF for use in other systems.
It-s Only the Beginning
“The approach we took with MEDUSA4 Personal has been borne out by the positive response we-ve had,” says Michael Schroer. “After all, it was quite a risk to take a professional grade CAD package with advanced features, worth thousands of Euros in the commercial realm, and offer it up for free. Our experience over the past few years has shown that this was absolutely the right move, as we-ve gained a whole new user base for our products. Now it-s our job to reassure those users that they won-t reach a dead-end when their needs change. So we-ve created a low cost, pay-per-result solution to serve the specific requirements of this new user base. Because the MEDUSA4 Personal community is very large and steadily expanding, the new online conversion option is only the beginning; we-re already planning other services. We intend to keep expanding our online offering to meet the growing demands of this community.“
