SAN ANTONIO, TX — (Marketwired) — 11/15/16 — announces today that it has acquired from Voiamo Group PLC through an asset purchase agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the acquisition includes the core assets of the Globalgig business, including the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreements, supplier contracts, its customer base, and the team of innovators that have developed the Globalgig product and service offering.
iGEM was co-founded by Chairman and CEO Ernest Cunningham, previously a founder of One Source Networks, one of Inc. Magazine–s Top 10 Fastest Growing Companies which grew from $0 to $100 million in eight years before being acquired by GTT Communications, Inc., and Gregory Casey, Chief Revenue Officer (Americas) and the founder of the Texas Energy Network, which provided broadband products and services to the oil and gas industry, and owned and operated a 50,000-square mile network spanning the Texas oilfields. Mr. Cunningham has held executive positions with Broadwing and Level 3 Communications. Mr. Casey is the former Executive Vice President of Qwest Communications, where he grew his business unit revenue from $53 million to $5 billion.
iGEM, also known as intelligent Global Enterprise Mobility, was established to provide a comprehensive suite of mobility and connectivity services to multinational enterprises, including global MVNO services, Mobile Device Management (MDM) and turnkey Unified Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS) solutions. Seventy-five percent of enterprise communications budgets are being spent on mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and other devices that support traditional and unified communications. Moreover, this market is growing 24 percent per year and is expected to top $510 billion worldwide by 2022. Meanwhile, this year, Gartner predicts that 6.4 billion IoT-connected devices will be in use worldwide, up 30 percent from 2015, and reaching 20.8 billion by 2020.
Mr. Cunningham will occupy the role of Chief Executive Officer at Globalgig, as the company seeks to expand its business opportunities in the rapidly expanding enterprise mobility and IoT markets. Globalgig was co-founded in 2008 by Mark Castle, its Chief Commercial Officer, who will now take on the key role of Chief Revenue Officer for EMEA at iGEM. At its inception, Globalgig–s business model was to provide leisure and corporate travelers with a convenient method of accessing mobile services globally, thereby eliminating the need to pay extortionate roaming fees, finding and having to use poor performing, unsecured public Wi-Fi networks, or having to hunt for local SIM solutions.
Since the launch of its global mobile data service in 2012, Globalgig has developed a significant customer base in both consumer and business markets, achieving success in the direct-to-market segment and through key white label retail partnerships in the UK, Germany and Spain. The company–s clients include leading multinational technology, social media and online transportation network companies. Given the increasingly global and digitalized nature of multinationals– operations, it has become evident that the enterprise sector, with its many frequent business travelers, benefits the most from a single-sourced, global mobility service offering.
Today–s enterprise must have on-demand access to data across geographic borders, diverse communications technologies, and disparate devices in real-time. According to the independent web analytics company StatCounter, last month, internet usage by mobile and tablet devices exceeded desktop worldwide for the first time. Additionally, research indicates that the number of devices managed in the enterprise increased 72 percent from 2014 to 2015, with three-plus devices on average used daily by employees. To achieve maximum productivity, agility and efficiency across any device, national or international office, or remote location in this new “business continuum,” enterprises need a single source to hyperconnect and orchestrate these disparate elements seamlessly, securely and without interruption. Globalgig orchestrates hyperconnectivity for the enterprise business continuum with a suite of fully-managed mobility and connectivity services.
“In view of what iGEM wants to achieve and provide to the enterprise sector, one of our first requirements was to secure a seamless, secure and reliable mobile data solution provider, so we sought out acquisition targets in the United States and Europe,” comments Mr. Cunningham. “When we discovered Globalgig, with its existing network of 13 MVNO agreements and 100-plus country mobile , it was obvious that the company would become the cornerstone to iGEM–s strategy of providing mobile data and connectivity solutions to global enterprises. The company–s mobile service offerings so perfectly align with our vision that we decided to adopt the Globalgig name to spearhead the iGEM product and service suite.”
Through future partnerships or the acquisition of additional service providers in the U.S. and Europe, iGEM will continue to seek products and services necessary to provide enterprises with a comprehensive suite of managed communications solutions, including mobility, data, voice and IoT.
“Whether you operate a multinational enterprise with widely dispersed offices and remote employees, a company seeking to quickly establish presence in new geographic markets, or are a global executive needing to maintain 24/7 availability and access to critical business applications, your organization requires a seamless, secure and reliable mobility solution,” remarks Mr. Castle. “Data connectivity has become the fourth utility. Globalgig–s ability to orchestrate hyperconnectivity in a business continuum with anywhere, anytime access to data is crucial to enterprise productivity.”
Globalgig orchestrates hyperconnectivity for the enterprise business continuum using managed communications solutions that include mobility, data, voice and IoT. Globalgig–s services and products include Mobile Device Management, Wi-Fi Hotspots, Remote Office/Backup, Technology Expense Management, and IoT/M2M connectivity solutions.
