MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/22/16 — Eyefi Inc. has combined efforts with Toshiba Corporation to deliver state-of-the-art capabilities into the upcoming versions of Toshiba–s FlashAir WiFi SD memory card product line. In addition, Eyefi has added direct support for automatic wireless transfer of images from Toshiba FlashAir cards to Eyefi Mobi apps on all major platforms.
“Toshiba is a global leader in the semiconductor industry and one of the primary creators of the SD memory card,” said Hiroto Nakai, senior fellow with Toshiba Corporation. “Our collaboration with Eyefi enables a powerful extension of the FlashAir product line and is an exciting development for photo enthusiasts and the imaging industry.”
Under terms of the agreement Eyefi and Toshiba have licensed their respective technologies and patents to each other, enabling future generations of FlashAir to incorporate best-in-class features from both companies– product lines into their offerings. Upcoming versions of Toshiba FlashAir cards will support the Eyefi Connected features available today on more than 300 camera models from Canon, Nikon, Sony, Ricoh, Pentax, Olympus, and other leading manufacturers.
“We teamed up with Toshiba, a world leader in flash memory, to ensure photo enthusiasts can enjoy the ultimate WiFi SD card now and in the future,” said Matt DiMaria, CEO of Eyefi. “Our engineers have worked closely together to provide customers with a great experience regardless of whether they are using FlashAir or an Eyefi Mobi card.”
Eyefi Mobi apps for iOS, Android, OS X and Windows-based devices will add support for currently shipping FlashAir II and FlashAir III memory cards later this month. FlashAir customers only need to install the Eyefi Mobi app on their device and enter the required FlashAir user ID and password into the app to begin enjoying instant transfer of their images. Toshiba Flash Air customers can use Eyefi Mobi apps as an alternative or complement to the existing FlashAir apps available on iOS and Android.
Eyefi Connected cameras include a range of advanced features that are controlled using the camera–s built-in menus — such as the ability to toggle on/off the radio of a WiFi SD memory card — and other features designed to maximize battery life while streamlining automatic transfer of images from the camera to a device running the Eyefi Mobi apps.
