Silicon Labs Upgrades to EEMBC Executive Board Membership

EL DORADO HILLS, CA and AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwired) — 06/21/16 — The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) today announced that (NASDAQ: SLAB), a leading supplier of silicon, software and solutions for the Internet of Things, has upgraded its membership from subcommittee member to become the consortium–s newest executive board member. Previously, Silicon Labs was a member of the EEMBC low-power subcommittee, which includes working group activities in ultra-low power benchmarks and IoT connectivity benchmarks. Silicon Labs– board membership in EEMBC allows the company to participate in a much larger role in helping to determine the strategic direction of the consortium.

EEMBC was formed in 1997 to develop meaningful performance benchmarks for the hardware and software used in embedded systems. EEMBC benchmarks help ensure predictable performance of embedded processors and systems in a range of applications and disciplines. In addition to the benchmarks currently in development, EEMBC is expanding into several important areas focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous driving (e.g. ADAS), and data centers.

“Silicon Labs has established itself as an innovator in ultra-low-power 32-bit microcontroller technology and wireless connectivity solutions, such as Bluetooth, ZigBee, Thread and proprietary protocols, which already lends a direct benefit to our IoT connectivity working group,” said Markus Levy, EEMBC President. “Silicon Labs is now also a valuable addition to the EEMBC board, offering dedication and expertise that will help EEMBC succeed into the future.”

“As an executive board member, we want to ensure the success of EEMBC and the continual development of credible benchmarks that will help guide our customers in making the best choices for their current and future IoT product designs,” said Daniel Cooley, senior vice president and general manager of IoT products at Silicon Labs. “With Brent Wilson, Silicon Labs– director of applications engineering, already co-chairing the EEMBC IoT-Connectivity working group, becoming a board member of this important consortium was the next logical step for us.”

EEMBC, the Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium, was formed in 1997 as a non-profit organization that develops industry-standard benchmarks to test processors, microcontrollers, and the corresponding embedded systems. EEMBC benchmarks help ensure predictable performance of embedded processors and systems in a range of applications and disciplines. Its benchmarks are currently in use within thousands of companies and universities worldwide.
