With its short term planning another module of S4Schedule has now gone live at German public broadcaster “Norddeutscher Rundfunk” (NDR). S4Schedule is a software solution developed by Cologne based S4M – Solutions for Media. It is part of an integrated software package supplied by S4M and designed to support NDR’s daily planning and management processes.
Alongside S4Schedule – which is employed from strategic program planning to frame-accurate broadcast – NDR uses S4Rights, a system that amongst other things provides for editorial title management and complete material logistics. Additionally, a central reporting module was introduced and integrated into NDR’s organizational processes.
S4Schedule’s short term scheduling is now also used to prepare and create the play list. For example, changes on short notice can still be accounted for until right before the actual broadcast. As well, so-called secondary events like adding logos or telephone numbers are considered.
The overall S4M system enables NDR staff to centrally generate and manage all relevant information. This offers a further advantage: S4M’s solution also feeds other NDR IT solutions – for example project and resource planning systems, SAP or systems processing statistical data – with information. Ranging from editorial details through program information to the technical transmission log. Likewise, the NDR intranet is connected to the S4M system: One day after an individual telecast, the NDR team can access the program plan. Generated by the S4M system, including planning and actual information as well as the technical broadcast protocol.
An interface to the NDR press portal is planned for 2008. By this means, program information can be posted on the net much faster.
