Y Combinator-Backed Circle Medical Announces Significant Expansion to Full Service Home Healthcare With Access to In-Application Medical Records

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 02/02/16 — Circle Medical, the first on demand, full service primary healthcare provider, today announced a significant upgrade to its service that builds on the value it has already delivered to consumers. Patients and doctors now have access to their medical records directly in the Circle Medical application, providing all of the information needed at the point of care, regardless where it is administered.

The legacy healthcare system is designed to make it convenient for providers, often at the expense of the patient and good clinical care. A visit to the doctor–s office involves a lengthy trip back and forth during the middle of a busy work day and prolonged waiting, for what is typically a seven-minute visit. The cost of maintaining a doctor–s office contributes a great deal to the expense of the visit; up to 75% of what insurance companies spend on primary care goes into physical office space and front office staff that aren–t needed and don–t contribute to a positive patient experience.

With the growth of technology such as smartphones, electronic medical records and GPS-powered routing software, there is a better approach and it used to play a central role in traditional healthcare fifty years ago; it–s called home healthcare and Circle Medical is playing a critical role in bringing it back.

Over eight hundred patients in San Francisco alone have used Circle Medical since it launched in August 2015. Circle Medical is now extending its value through new features including making patient friendly, HIPAA-compliant medical records available to the patient directly in the app.

“With this release, we–re excited to be taking one more step towards patient empowerment,” said Dr. David Kagan, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer at Circle Medical. “We believe every patient has the right to see their own medical records, in plain English, and that this is an essential component in having patients take an active role in managing their health.”

How it works
Becoming a Circle Medical member is easy. You simply download the app from iTunes or Google Play to your iPhone or Android device, scan your insurance card, pick one of the doctors in Circle Medical–s practice and book an appointment. The Circle Medical doctor can visit you at home or at work, and perform any of the tasks that they do in a traditional doctor–s office, such as wellness exams, sick visits, blood tests and writing prescriptions. It costs no more than traditional medical office visits and the majority of leading health insurers cover it, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Healthnet, Aetna and United Healthcare.

Circle Medical is available in San Francisco and will be expanding to additional areas in 2016.
