The makers of Split Social — respected online marketers and software developers Alex Costan and Stephen Gilbert — claim that their product revolutionizes Facebook marketing with it–s features and ease of use. But does it? KarlsReviews set out to determine the answer. First, some important background information.
Facebook, the #1 social media platform in the world, has become a major hub for commerce. Thousands of companies, large and small, have realized the potential of Facebook–s captive audience — the millions upon millions of people who spend time there every day. Billions of dollars have changed hands across the site in recent years.
Professional Facebook marketers and marketing firms have identified the most effective methods of selling on the platform, and virtually all agree that the “old school method” of simply running ads, no matter how well targeted, is not it. The consensus is that what works best on Facebook are interactive advertising methods that thrill, entice and engage. Perhaps the most effective of these new methods is the viral contest.
The Split Social app was designed specifically for this purpose. It–s creators claim it makes doing so “as simple as a few clicks.” The idea is to make running contests and sweepstakes on the Facebook news feed (and on one–s own WordPress-based site) far easier than competing products.

“I–ve personally used many of the competing Facebook marketing products,” said Karl of KarlsReviews.com. “Most are complicated, finicky and flaky. I wanted to find out if Split Social lived up the hype.”
Split Social provides the capability to turn any news feed post into a contest. The app is designed to incentivize people to like, share and comment, by increasing a person–s chance to win thereby. History has shown that this kind of interactivity causes contests to “go viral” on their own, without spending on Facebook ads. Given the dramatic rise in Facebook advertising costs in recent years, this is a powerful (and distinctive) capability of the software.
“My team and I saw that, in a few cases, it was necessary to kick-start our contests with paid ads, because we wanted fast results. But we were thrilled and surprised to see our free promotions using Split Social do very, very well. Despite our initial reservations, we found that the –click bait– of potentially winning something of value really worked well,” said Karl, head honcho of KarlsReviews.

Split Social automatically split tests images and headlines in real time, eventually picking the best combination to ensure optimal results. Following participation in a contest, users are automatically redirected anywhere the Facebook marketer chooses.
“We found that the redirect feature provides a tremendous way to channel the interest and excitement generated by the contest into leads, brand impressions, advertising and even sales,” said Karl of KarlsReviews.
“Starting from fanpages and groups that had some activity and traffic, we tested several different Split Social campaigns. In all cases, we were very pleased to see results. Our posts went viral, to one degree or another. This may well be the greatest strength and single best feature of Split Social — it really doesn–t require paid traffic!
“So long as there is some activity to begin with, the software takes it from there. Then it split tests automatically, to pick the best combination of headlines and imagery. To the best of my knowledge, Split Social is unique in in this regard — and very, very powerful.
“We also found it to be mercifully simple to setup and use, unlike many of the competitors. Even non-techies should find Split Social relatively easy to get started with.”
The application consists of a WordPress plugin which is synced to a user–s Facebook pages and groups. The plugin must simply be uploaded to a self-hosted WordPress site or blog, a Facebook app created and connected, and then the software is ready for use.
The software also provides the capability to host fully Facebook-integrated contests from a WordPress-based website. Site activity is automatically reflected on related Facebook timelines. Whether a contest is begun on Facebook itself or on a website, the app ensures virality, interaction and engagement.
Split Social begins a limited introductory roll out on January 26, 2016. During it–s initial launch period, it will only be available for a limited time.
