SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 01/26/16 — , the only online community and mobile app designed to help small businesses connect and share resources with each other, today announced that the community has launched city-wide in Seattle, its fourth major city in addition to San Francisco, Oakland and New York. The community is currently active in Seattle–s most popular neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, Pioneer Square, Ballard, Fremont, and Phinney Ridge and Greenwood. Townsquared will extend into additional Seattle neighborhoods throughout the first quarter of 2016.
“Seattle is home to several big-name companies and there–s a fear that they will eventually drive out the small businesses who can–t afford to pay the same rents, fees and salaries,” said Gregor Schmidt, co-founder of Studio 5 Innovation. “Townsquared is valuable because it empowers local businesses through strength in numbers and gives them a collective voice. The community is an excellent resource for small businesses and I look forward to being a part of it as it grows throughout the city.”
Townsquared is partnering with local Seattle government and organizations including the North Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Ballard Chamber of Commerce and the Seattle Police Department. The company is also working with nonprofit organizations to solve local issues like homelessness, creating a local dialogue that benefits the whole community.
“As we roll out Townsquared across the country we are selecting cities where the small business market is thriving,” said Rohit Prakash, Co-founder and CEO of Townsquared. “With about 75,000 small businesses across Seattle and an average 66% survival rate, there is a huge opportunity for our community to make an impact. We are passionate about connecting small businesses together and look forward to growing our community throughout the thriving Seattle region.”
“With Townsquared, small business owners know they–re not alone,” said Jessica Vidican-Neisius, owner of Morning Glory Chai. “As a small business owner, long and sometimes unpredictable hours can make it difficult to network with peers. Townsquared enables me to connect with other local business owners in an easy and convenient way. Whether I–m seeking advice on marketing, looking for a reliable electrician, or alerting the neighborhood of a shoplifter, Townsquared connects small businesses in a way that makes us all stronger.”
Townsquared was founded in 2013 by Rohit Prakash and Nipul Patel, who grew up in small business families. Townsquared is the only online community and mobile app specifically designed to help neighborhood businesses be more successful by connecting them to other businesses and local resources. When businesses join Townsquared, they get access to a vibrant community that works together on crime and safety issues, provides neighborhood updates, and gives them the ability to form partnerships and co-sponsor events, and organize efforts around government initiatives.
Townsquared works with thousands of small businesses across the country and continues to grow and expand into new markets. The company has raised $5.26M in funding from Floodgate and August Capital. The Townsquared community can be found at and via the Apple App Store.
