SILICON VALLEY, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/16/15 — (OTC PINK: PRXM), a pioneer and global leader in advanced Wi-Fi, point to point (PtP), and point to multipoint (PtMP) wireless systems, is introducing the carrier class ORiNOCO® AP-9100R access point designed for outdoor enterprise, carrier and public WiFi networks.
The ORiNOCO AP-9100R is a dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) MIMO 2×2 access point delivering 1166Mbps aggregate data rate and is designed for large area deployments supported by a high transmit power of up to 28dBm. The AP-9100R is powered by the same leading edge ORiNOCO software running the AP-8100 and AP-9100 indoor APs with several enhancements specifically for outdoor use. In addition to the standard support for multiple VLANs and SSIDs, ultra secure communications via SSH, SSL and SMNPv3, and enhanced multicast support for IPTV or streaming video, the AP-9100R provides Hot Spot support via Walled Garden and Home Page Re-Direct.
Designed to be used as a standalone “fat” AP or integrated into a larger network and running as a “thin” AP connected to Proxim–s hybrid controller, ProximVision Advanced, the AP-9100R with its robust construction is ideal for a wide range of applications:
– As carriers continue to leverage WiFi for off loading 4G cellular networks, and cities strive to provide WiFi in public domains such as transportation hubs, deployments of outdoor APs continues to accelerate. Being able to install a small, unobtrusive outdoor rated AP where coverage is needed allows carriers to leverage WiFi off load in the busiest portions of their networks. When deployed in conjunction with Proxim network infrastructure and managed by ProximVision Advanced, the resultant complete solution gives carriers almost unlimited upside to addressing the increasing demand for data.
– In many shopping arcades, public transportation hubs and even large entertainment venues, the WiFi solution needs to be both ruggedized as well as secure. With an IP rating of 67 and secure access for administration, control traffic and data payload, the AP-9100R allows customers to deploy it with confidence, while operating with the full feature set support available in the most sophisticated indoor APs available today.
– As operators and municipalities work together to provide optimal siting for outdoor AP deployments, there often is a desire to leverage the effort involved in deploying an outdoor AP by adding a surveillance camera. With the AP-9100R supporting PoE out, adding a camera to the AP location is as simple as mounting it and plugging it into the AP-9100R.
“While outdoor APs have been deployed for several years, these are typically nothing more than a standard indoor AP put in an outdoor enclosure. As such, these products lack the key features necessary for an outdoor AP – large coverage areas via higher power, ultra secure communications, ruggedized construction and the ability to operate in extreme temperatures,” said Greg Marzullo, President and CEO of Proxim Wireless. “The AP-9100R delivers on all of these requirements as well as providing power via PoE for external devices such as cameras and sensors. When combined with ProximVision Advanced, large, complex citywide deployments can be effectively managed with a minimum of oversight.”
