SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/11/15 — , the leader in decoupled storage, today announced that the , Norway–s largest center of marine science, has deployed software to accelerate virtualized database performance while negating the need to purchase additional storage. In doing so, the Institute has facilitated access to key aquaculture data, improving its ability to advise Norwegian authorities on how best to harvest marine resources in a sustainable way.
Christer Johannessen, the IT engineer responsible for storage at IMR, deployed PernixData FVP software when slow storage was adversely impacting the performance of critical databases. FVP puts storage intelligence into high speed server media, creating a low latency I/O acceleration tier that maximizes application performance. At the same time, any storage device can be used for capacity, which avoids rip/replace headaches and maximizes design flexibility.
“Since deploying FVP software, the wait time for reports has decreased considerably and so the users are no longer frustrated,” proclaimed Johannessen. “The performance of non-virtualized applications cannot touch the performance of our virtual applications with FVP software, it isn–t even close.”
In addition, in just two months IMR has offloaded over 685 million IOPs from the SAN using FVP, which has extended the life of the device by several years.
“By investing in PernixData FVP and some SSDs, we have saved over $40,000 by negating the need to purchase additional storage and, in turn, our environment is now future-proofed.”
