VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA — (Marketwired) — 11/03/15 — (NASDAQ: CPAH)(TSX: CCV), a developer of award-winning over-the-top (OTT) Unified Communications solutions for enterprises and operators, today announced plans to launch Bria with support for Microsoft Lync, positioning CounterPath to unite enterprise communication services based on third party call servers from Cisco, Avaya and other infrastructure vendors with Microsoft Lync–s Instant Message and Presence Functionality. Now, using Bria, enterprises can integrate these two disparate services using a single softphone client across mobile, tablet and desktop platforms, offering their staff a seamless user experience and a common user interface without replacing underlying infrastructure.
“When discussing large enterprise deployments, two vendor solutions are mentioned frequently: Cisco–s Call Manager and Microsoft–s Lync. We solve the problem of integrating the two different solutions within a single client interface,” said Todd Carothers, EVP of Marketing and Products at CounterPath. “We developed this functionality in response to direct requests from a number of global enterprises, especially in the high-value financial services sector, that want to use the messaging and presence functionality of Lync while leveraging their existing Cisco or Avaya legacy call servers. With this advance, we integrate the best of what Lync offers with Cisco, Avaya and other legacy IP platforms, enabling enterprises to launch new communication services without replacing their existing infrastructure.”
According to research firm Frost & Sullivan, Cisco–s Unified Communications Manager (UCM) has been deployed by thousands of enterprises around the world for all major collaboration services, including voice, video and mobility. At the same time, Microsoft–s Lync is rapidly gaining market traction, especially for Instant Messaging and Presence services. Overall, according to Synergy Research Group, the two firms now account for about 30% of the nearly $30 billion dollar market for enterprise voice and UC applications, meaning both companies have an enormous installed base of equipment at major enterprises.
CounterPath plans to release products supporting Lync integration across major operating systems and platforms, including hosted services such as Bria Cloud, in the first half of 2016. Global enterprises in the financial services and other sectors are currently testing the pre-release versions.
