REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/14/15 — today demonstrated its social virtual reality (VR) software for Samsung–s Gear VR. AltspaceVR is the first company to provide a communications experience which bridges PC and mobile virtual reality.
Earlier today, a dozen people located thousands of miles apart used AltspaceVR on Gear VR only minutes after they received the hardware to meet in virtual reality for a first of its kind reveal presentation. During the meeting, the company showed off three capabilities never before seen in mobile VR: cross-platform communication, shared web browsing, and social viewing.
“Being cross-platform has been a consistent request from our users, and we understand why,” said AltspaceVR Founder & CEO Eric Romo. “Some people will choose a desktop PC-based experience, and others will prefer mobile VR, but both groups should be able to interact and feel like they–re in the same place with AltspaceVR, without compromise.”
Shared web browsing and social viewing have been cornerstone features of AltspaceVR since it was first shown publicly last September. Now users on mobile can meet, view the same web pages and share content, just like PC users. In today–s event, the presentation itself was a shared web page.
AltspaceVR also demonstrated another industry first-the ability for mobile and PC users to watch streaming videos together. PC and mobile users all over the world can now gather together and watch their favorite content, all while feeling like they are sitting next to each other.
“We–ve seen great interest in social viewing around movies, TV shows, and eSports, and we–re excited to bring those experiences to mobile users,” said Romo.
AltspaceVR supports Samsung Gear VR using either the Galaxy 6S or the Note 4.The simplicity and mobility of AltspaceVR on GearVR is ideal for consumers that are new to VR, while the power of the devices delivers a quality experience.
