SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/18/15 — Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a leading supplier of serial high-speed switching, connectivity, signal-integrity and timing solutions, today announced expanded product families in support of next generation mobility (notebook, smart phone, tablet) and server platforms. Pericom will display these products at IDF, Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, August 18-20, 2015 at Booth # 454.
According to an IC Insights report (Feb, 2015), tablet, PC, and smart phone unit sales combined will exceed 2.2 billion units by 2020. These next generation mobile devices require new chipsets that offer programmable multi-protocol (combo) I/O, such as 8Gbps with PCI Express® (PCIe®) 3.0 technology and 6Gbps SATA3 for internal storage connections. Pericom addresses this need by offering new –combo– ReDrivers/Repeaters that can automatically sense which protocol is being used and configure itself accordingly.
USB ports on mobile devices as well as most USB-enabled platforms are rapidly moving to the new reversible –Type-C– USB connectors. Pericom–s expanded product family supports all features of the new specification, such as DisplayPort (DP) and USB multiplexing from the same connector. The company–s Type-C total solution offers plug orientation (CC pins) detector, crossbar switch, USB3.0 ReDrivers (1V, 1.2V, 1.8V and 3.3V), DisplayPort 1.2 ReDriver, Charge Controllers, and USB3.1 Gen 1 and Gen 2 mux signal switches.
Next generation server and storage platforms require high-speed PCIe 3.0 technology with 8Gbps performance, 10Gbps Ethernet and 12Gbps SAS3 signal integrity products to linearly reproduce the link training signals required by each protocol–s signaling specification. Pericom–s new linear ReDriver/Repeater families provide link training compliance to extend high speed traces and cables in server and storage platforms.
