Instacart Contractors in Seattle and Portland Invited to Apply for Employee Positions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 07/30/15 — (), the fast-growing service whose personal shoppers hand pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, announced today that it is inviting its contractor in-store shoppers in Seattle and Portland, Ore., to apply for newly created employee roles with expanded responsibilities.

Instacart began offering its contractors the option to apply for employee positions in Boston in February, and has since expanded the program to Chicago, Atlanta, Miami, Washington, D.C., Houston and Austin. With today–s additions, Instacart now offers the option in 9 of its 16 cities, with more to come.

As employees, Instacart shoppers will be provided with more training and supervision, which has been proven to improve the efficiency and quality of order picking, leading to higher customer satisfaction. In other cities, approximately three-quarters of in-store shoppers have opted to apply for these part-time employee positions. Those who choose to remain contractors can move into driver or combined driver/shopper roles.

Instacart offers part-time employees competitive wages that exceed the local minimum wage in each of its markets.

“Making our in-store shoppers employees has helped on multiple fronts,” said Apoorva Mehta, founder and CEO of Instacart. “The additional training and supervision we can provide helps with efficiency of our shopping. And integrating shoppers more closely into the Instacart culture is helping with retention — and that–s helped boost quality as well. We–re very happy that the program has been so well received and look forward to bringing it to additional cities in the coming weeks.”

Originally launched in San Francisco, and since expanded into many other cities, Instacart has fundamentally changed the traditional space by connecting customers with personal shoppers who shop for and deliver grocery orders in as little as one hour.
