SAN JOSE, CA and SEATTLE, WA — (Marketwire) — 08/02/11 — , the global leader in cloud client computing, and today announced that Seattle Children-s has been named a winner of the 2011 for its strategic use of cloud and zero client information technology.

Seattle Children-s turned to the Wyse Xenith zero client as a replacement to PCs to speed caregiver access to patient data throughout the hospital, adding efficiencies for staff and ultimately improving the delivery of care. Seattle Children-s is consistently ranked among the nation-s best pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report magazine.
“Wyse has been a crucial partner in helping us simplify our IT infrastructure. Over the next five years, we anticipate that by using Wyse Xenith, in lieu of legacy hardware we-ll save over $6 million in hardware and energy costs, as well as thousands of hours in staff time,” said Wes Wright, vice president and chief technology officer at Seattle Children-s. “Removing waste from our systems and processes is a component of our ongoing Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) philosophy and improvement approach, which enable us to dedicate more of our valuable resources to delivering the best care possible to patients and families — our number one job. Every minute we can save of staff time and every dollar we can save directly leads to better care.”
Transferring from using PCs in favor of the Wyse Xenith zero client is a key component of the hospital-s virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) initiative that was born out of the hospital-s overarching strategy to improve the quality of care and find efficiencies for increased staff productivity. When staff spend less time at the computer, they have more time for direct patient contact.
Seattle Children-s deployed a desktop virtualization solution leveraging Citrix XenDesktop® and Citrix XenApp in concert with approximately 3,000 Wyse Xenith zero clients. This implementation has accelerated system logins from several minutes to just 20 seconds, saving staff time and improving patient interactions; virtually eliminated desktop technical issues, enhancing patient service and saving, over the next five years, an estimated $1.2 million of IT staff time, $6 million in PC replacement costs, and $1.5 million in energy cost.
“Seattle Children-s continues to demonstrate leadership and strategic vision when it comes to IT. Wyse is proud to be a key partner in the hospital-s efforts to set a high-level of standard for healthcare. Congratulations to Seattle Children-s for this well-deserved recognition,” said Maryam Alexandrian, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Channels at Wyse Technology.
