OTTAWA, ON and BOSTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 06/22/15 — Fueled by the need to provision new, higher-margin and bandwidth-intensive services more quickly, today announced rapidly expanding deployments of its 100G-optimized platforms by carriers, colocation and Web 2.0 content providers worldwide.
BTI is the market-leading provider of cloud and metro networking software and systems to content and service providers globally. Citing CyrusOne, Pacnet and IPC as recently announced customer examples, the company saw a ten-fold increase in 100G ports shipped in Q1 2015 when compared to Q1 2014. The company started shipping the BTI 7800 Series in Q3 2013; as of Q1 2015, 20 customers have deployed 100G within their networks.
Global colocation solutions provider CyrusOne (NASDAQ: CONE) is leveraging the BTI 7800 platforms with 100G to address the unprecedented demand for colocation services and capacity. “We provide more than two dozen mission-critical data center facilities globally that protect and ensure the continued operation of information technology infrastructure for over 675 customers,” said CyrusOne Vice President and General Manager, Interconnection, Josh Snowhorn. “With the phenomenal growth of our customer base, we are faced with increased bandwidth demands, escalating quickly. Performance and scale are vital, so we can reduce expenses and improve service quality while helping customers drive revenue. The BTI 7800 100G platform is delivering — and exceeding — our network requirements.”
A recent IHS/Infonetics report on Optical Network Hardware highlighted that deployed optical WAN capacity grew 30% from 2013 to 2014. Additionally, the report showed that demand for 100G continues to grow with the metro poised to transition to this speed in 2016, as data centers adopt 100G as an interconnect standard and traditional carriers introduce 100G into the metro in a significant way. “Companies that want to be successful in the data center interconnect market must recognize the unique needs of these customers and deliver solutions tailored for them. BTI has a long history of serving this market,” remarked IHS Research Director, Carrier Transport Networking, Andrew Schmitt.
Cloud computing, video and mobility applications are driving unparalleled growth in IP network traffic. Moreover, metro traffic is growing twice as fast as long-haul, fueled in part by the increase in data center interconnect (DCI) volumes. Cisco–s Visual Networking Index (VNI) reports that metro traffic surpassed long-haul traffic in 2014 and will account for 66% of total IP traffic by 2019. This phenomenal metro traffic growth is putting pressure on networks and powering strong adoption of 100G — initially for inter-data center deployments, but increasingly by carriers globally for metro transport and aggregation services. The BTI 7800 Series enables these services by delivering a full-featured 100G-optimized optical transport platform that converges ROADMs and rich packet processing to deliver simplified operations, improved network efficiencies and “pay as you grow” scale to increase service agility while significantly lowering costs.
“We have seen a surge in 100G deployments of our BTI 7800 Series since we started shipping the platform in 2013. In fact, over 97% of sales of the BTI 7800 Series are 100G,” said BTI Systems Senior Vice President of Global Marketing Sally Bament. “This momentum is being driven by metro DCI deployments by content and colocation providers — representing just over half of shipments to date. Additionally, carriers are starting to deploy 100G for wavelength services. We expect the growth in 100G to continue as cloud computing, video and mobility applications put even more pressure on metro networks.”
, identified by analyst firm Ovum as the third largest provider of DCI solutions to Internet Content Providers (ICPs) and Carrier-Neutral Providers (CNPs). This market success was in part a result of BTI–s focus on metro-optimized solutions. Additionally, BTI was recently named by Light Reading, recognizing the company for its outstanding achievements in next-generation communications technology, applications and services.
