MILPITAS, CA and TAIPEI, TAIWAN — (Marketwired) — 06/02/15 — ® (NASDAQ: SIGM), a leading provider of intelligent system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for Smart TV, Internet of Things (IoT) for Smart Home and set-top boxes (STBs), today announced the launch of a highly integrated, single chip low power G.hn CG5300 family of chipsets minimizing overall bill of material (BOM) cost, form factor and design costs.
G.hn technology offers a single standard for connecting networked devices over any existing wired infrastructure (power-line, coax and phone-line) to meet the demands of multi-screen and expanded bandwidth content in today–s homes.
The family enables large scale networks running a high number of simultaneous 4K video streams and guaranteed whole-home DVR coverage. With CG5300, end-users enjoy unprecedented convenience and flexibility because every power outlet, coaxial outlet and phone jack in-home becomes a network connectivity point on the same mesh network.
The CG5300 G.hn chipsets are optimized for 4K video and IPTV distribution and advanced multicast systems. The chipsets were designed to be easily embedded within a broad range of products such as:
Connected TVs
DVRs
Thin Client Set-Top Boxes
OTT Gateways
Blu-ray DVD
ONTs
With CG5300, service providers can reduce their installation costs and avoid truck rolls. Customers can easily self-install a home entertainment network for distribution of multiple 4K video streams without the need of professional installers.
The CG5300 series has several configurations optimized for different use cases including:
-MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) using all three wires in the power outlet — phase, neutral, and ground — to ensure best delivery of IPTV traffic over power lines, even in the presence of surge protectors, circuit breakers and across multiple phases.
-SISO (single input, single output) based products utilizing only the phase and neutral wires, coax and phone and are backward-compatible with HPNA 3.1 (G.9954) to enable smooth migration from HPNA3.1 to G.hn coax and phone.
“G.hn is the natural backbone for the home. It is based on a home–s existing wiring and takes the traffic load off of the often over-extended wireless infrastructure to ensure consumers have an easy to install solution to take advantage of the exciting new 4K content and the use of multiple screens,” said Nadav Katsir, vice-president home connectivity business unit for Sigma Designs.
The CG5300 is sampling to select OEM and ODM customers, and will be in volume production in 3Q 15.
