One of the key considerations for wide-scale carrier deployments of G.fast service is the cost associated with installation of G.fast CPEs and gateways. In addition, the provisioning of the associated G.fast distribution points is a key contributor to determining the economics and speed of such gigabit services for carriers. This presentation will discuss the challenges faced during these carrier deployments and the potential solutions for subscriber self-install and smart provisioning of DPUs in order to facilitate successful deployment of G.fast service.

Last year, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T) took the first step towards standardizing G.fast, the next major DSL-based standard which vendors hope will provide a “fiber-like” experience. Next steps consist of testing and early deployments. The 2015 edition of the G.fast Summit will mainly cover reports from the first testbeds, interop sessions and field trials. As was the case last year, the most renowned experts will be highlighting next steps for G.fast, based on what has been developed and published in 2014.
