SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/20/15 — WinView Inc., the pioneer of synchronized two screen television, today announced the closing of its second round of financing in the amount of $1.15 million to complete and launch its real-time sports app synchronized with live TV, WinView Games (), which is expected to launch with the 2015 football season. Investors are predominantly comprised of senior executives within the consumer package goods industry. Previously, WinView raised $2.0 million in its first round of financing.
The WinView Games real-time synchronized sports app lets fans play skill-based, in-game competitions, including separate contests among friends and family, during live TV sporting events for cash rewards and prizes utilizing a unique freemium business model. WinView Games will bring together the entertainment of watching live televised sports along with the skills and the camaraderie of fantasy sports leagues, coupled by the shared moment-to-moment experience of real time predictions, standings and updates.
WinView will target sports enthusiasts across a broad spectrum of interest levels, ranging from over 180 million casual professional sports fans to those fans who are super engaged in the daily fantasy sports industry. More than 41 million Americans participate in fantasy leagues, according to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, with daily fantasy generating $1 billion of entry fees in 2014.
The WinView Games app experience will also be similar to live in-play betting, an industry that generates an estimated $12 billion in mobile revenues alone outside the U.S. market, according to iGaming Business based in the UK. Since WinView Games will be free to play, the sports app will be legal everywhere in the U.S. and Canada.
WinView Games founder and CEO Dave Lockton commented, “There is an inevitable progression of media and entertainment genres that leverage technology to reach the desired mobile and real-time consumption in Europe. This axiom is already being applied to televised-sports-based games of chance and skill. The European migration of betting and fantasy-based gaming, from season to weekly to daily, which is now over 70 % live in-play on mobile, is primed to happen with televised sports in the U.S.”
Lockton observed that betting outside the U.S. on the mobile phone while watching sports telecast has grown to over $100 billion in wagers vs. $1 billion in entry fees for daily fantasy during the same time period. “Our unique legal free two screen games for cash awards, which is protected by 18 issued and 19 pending patents, will finally bring real-time mobile cash rewarded game experiences to virtually all televised sports in the next few years,” said Lockton. “After all, what–s more exciting than competing for cash with friends and league members?”
Steve Steger, founder and managing partner of Global IP Law Group, WinView–s patent advisor, said, “WinView owns technology patents critical to monetizing the second screen. A first set of patents discloses synchronizing second screen information with TV programming and commercials. There are many potential uses for such synchronization, but it is particularly useful when conducting games of skill or chance. A second set of patents relates to technology that will allow the 40 million fantasy players and 100 million hard core football fans to simultaneously play against one another in multiple contests.”
WinView founder and CEO Dave Lockton has founded and run over eight B2C pioneering market driven companies, four of which launched new billion dollar market segments. He is the pioneer of “push” technology and the second screen segment of the interactive television industry. Mr. Lockton founded three companies, Data Broadcasting (now IDC), Interactive Network, Inc., and AirPlay Inc., that created technical platforms that delivered real-time wireless information and entertainment services to consumers.
