RESTON, VA — (Marketwired) — 04/13/15 — , a leading provider of grid-scale energy storage software and integration solutions, was today named a 2015 New Energy Pioneer by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the provider of unique analysis, tools and data for decision makers driving change in the energy system. Greensmith CEO John Jung accepted the award at the Future of Energy Summit in New York City.
Every year, Bloomberg recognizes ten game-changing companies for innovation, momentum and potential global impact in industries including energy efficiency, digital energy, solar, bioenergy and water. An independent panel of industry experts selected the ten winners from numerous applicants from around the world, assessing them against three criteria: potential scale, innovation and momentum.
“Our New Energy Pioneers program seeks to recognize innovative companies that have the potential to impact the future energy landscape,” said Michael Wilshire, head of analysis and New Energy Pioneers committee chair, Bloomberg Energy Finance. “Storage will be a critical part of the energy economy and Greensmith — with its innovative combination of storage systems and software — has already deployed numerous such systems to a variety of utility clients.”
“We are honored to have been chosen for this recognition by Bloomberg, particularly at a time when energy storage is attracting so much attention,” said Jung. “It–s gratifying to see others recognize that Greensmith is having a global impact on the energy industry.”
Energy storage–s ability to ensure a more resilient power grid is increasing its adoption in North America and around the world. The recent from GTM Research and Energy Storage Association (ESA) reported that 61.9 megawatts of energy storage came online in the U.S. in 2014. Having installed 25 MW of storage in 2014, Greensmith is responsible for over one-third of this storage deployed.
Greensmith, with its GEMS4 software platform and associated services, is helping accelerate the adoption of energy storage, having:
Delivered more than 40 grid-scale energy storage systems to 19 customers.
Integrated 12 different batteries and six inverters/power control systems with its GEMS4 software platform.
Used its GEMS4 software platform to support a diverse array of applications, including frequency regulation, ramp rate control and renewables smoothing.
Recently new energy storage system simulation (StorageModel) and visualization (StorageView) applications to its GEMS4 software platform.
Greensmith–s mission is to make energy storage a fundamental component of a cleaner, more advanced energy infrastructure. Its intelligent and flexible GEMS software platform optimizes the performance of a grid-scale energy storage system–s batteries, inverters and other hardware, lowering costs and improving the system–s return on investment. Greensmith–s GEMS energy storage software platform is currently used by 19 customers for multiple applications at over 40 different sites, including the single largest battery-based power system deployed globally in 2014, which provides 24×7 frequency regulation services.
