In the first quarter of 2011, the company released the Rumblefish API in private beta to a select group of strategic partners. Today, Rumblefish has opened its API to the greater development community and is accepting new partners from all industries including video, photo, gaming, presentation and mobile apps. Early integration partners announced today include social moviemaking app , fitness provider and online video editing service . Each company offers users the ability to browse custom playlists, receive soundtrack recommendations by describing their videos, search for and filter music via attributes (mood, instrument, tempo, etc.) and license songs as “social soundtracks” for any piece of user-generated content (or UGC).

The Rumblefish Music catalog consists of hand-picked, copyright-cleared songs used in major TV shows, films, advertisements and video games for more than a decade. Music partners are diverse and include thousands of artists and labels worldwide, representing over fifty genres, including full orchestral scores, indie rock, pop, electronic and hand-crafted sound effects. Licensable rights span traditional film and television sync to UGC licenses, also called MicroSync, for use on networks such as YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Google+ and others.
