NTT i3 Maintains Focus on Newly Introduced Elastic Service Infrastructure Solution With the Promotion of Masahisa Kawashima to Senior Vice President

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 02/26/15 — (NTT i3), the Silicon Valley-based applied research and open innovation center of NTT Group, today announced the promotion of Dr. Masahisa Kawashima to Senior Vice President. In this role, Dr. Kawashima will focus on rolling out NTT i3–s Elastic Service Infrastructure (ESI). ESI addresses the challenges businesses face due to rapid cloud adoption such as increasing security threats, the proliferation of network appliances and increasing Internet access traffic overloading wide area networks and data center links.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity this new role will afford me in enabling the cloud-ready enterprise through NTT i3–s ESI,” said Kawashima. “This technology will allow our clients to streamline service operations and deploy relevant network and security technology in a seamless and highly automated manner. ESI is just the latest example of NTT i3–s commitment to launching new and innovative services that create strong ROI for our clients.”

“Masa has been and will continue to be an instrumental member of the NTT i3 team and his promotion to Senior Vice President was well-deserved,” said Srini Koushik, President and Chief Executive Officer at NTT i3. “ESI is an important and impactful solution for our clients and I know that Masa has the innovative spirit, experience, and entrepreneurial work ethic to make it a great success.”

ESI, an infrastructure for NFV-enabled enterprise networking, is designed to meet a broad range of customer needs. The solution will launch a field trial in April 2015 with NTT Group organizations including Dimension Data, NTT Communications, NTT DATA, Inc. and the NTT service Innovation Laboratory Group. The solution offloads cloud and Internet traffic at any nearby carrier data center reducing traffic on overextended WAN and data center links. ESI also has the ability to create a new marketplace for networking companies to offer their virtual network function (VNF) services as a service on any carrier network and can easily and responsively update their network at a lower cost. The solution also brings Internet bandwidth to enterprise WANs using software VPN over the Internet.

Dr. Kawashima has been engaged in technology and business development for NTT since joining the organization in 1994. With his enthusiasm about technology strategy, he has accomplished several initiatives to update NTT–s business with new technology trends. He played a leading role in the organization of the NTT Open Source Software Center in 2006, and in the strategic Wi-Fi service renewal for NTT WEST in 2011. He received his Ph.D. from Waseda University in Tokyo in 1994, and earned his masters in MOT (Management of Technology) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management in 2002.
