Scott Singer, COP, head of Global Business Services (GBS) for Rio Tinto, and Mike Corbett, Founder and Chairman, IAOP, were honored today during an awards luncheon at The 2015 Outsourcing World Summit in Phoenix, Arizona.
“The Outsourcing Hall of Fame recognizes the very best professionals in the outsourcing industry whose outsourcing management practice and leadership has significantly contributed to business and society at large,” said IAOP CEO, Debi Hamill. “Scott Singer and Mike Corbett have inspired each of us in this industry to higher achievements and we are pleased to welcome them into the Outsourcing Hall of Fame.”
Scott Singer, COP, is the head of Global Business Services (GBS) for Rio Tinto, a leading international mining group. Supported by a team of employees spread globally on five continents and outsource service partners, he is responsible for the Information Systems & Technology, Procurement, Finance, People and Group Property service delivery functions. He is a recognized thought leader in world-class supply chain management, advanced sourcing strategies, outsourcing and cloud computing. Prior to Rio Tinto, he spent 19 years with United Technologies Corporation and in his last position served as Chief Procurement Officer.
“It is an honor for me to receive this recognition by IAOP which brings top shelf thought leadership across the outsourcing profession including academia, professional services, outsourcing companies and many business sectors that are driving business transformation through the globalization of process centric work,” said Singer. “We have been members for many years and the insights gained from regional events and the world summit have had a very positive impact on our transformation programs. It is appropriate that we also share our experiences with others so that they may benefit from our learnings.”
Mike Corbett is the founder and chairman of IAOP. He first got involved with outsourcing while he was with IBM in the late 1980s and was part of a large team that got IBM into the outsourcing business. He wrote what may be the first research report on IT outsourcing, published by Frost & Sullivan in 1989, and then spent the next 15 years focusing on outsourcing as a management practice. He helped spearhead the idea to build an association to recognize and support customers, providers and advisors as “outsourcing professionals” so they could better do their jobs. Today, that association, IAOP, improves outsourcing outcomes by bringing together customers, providers and advisors in a collaborative, knowledge-based environment that promotes professional development, recognition, certification and excellence.
“It truly is an honor to be selected for this recognition,” said Corbett. “I–m privileged to be in the same Hall of Fame as those who have influenced my thinking, as well as many others I–ve had the great pleasure to work with, know and learn from over the years. Thank you to the committee and members for their support and most of all, thanks to the great team at IAOP for everything they do every day for our profession.”
