PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 02/09/15 — NTT Innovation Institute Inc. (NTT i3) is pleased to announce the limited beta release of its Elastic Service Infrastructure (ESI). ESI addresses the challenges businesses face due to rapid cloud adoption, increasing security threats, the proliferation of network appliances and increasing Internet access traffic overloading wide area networks and data center links.
ESI, an infrastructure for NFV-enabled enterprise networking, leverages Juniper Networks– , an OpenStack-based cloud orchestration platform, and Sproute Networks technologies.
ESI is designed to meet a broad range of customer needs:
ESI offloads cloud and Internet traffic at any nearby carrier data center reducing traffic on overextended WAN and data center links.
ESI creates a new marketplace for networking companies to offer their virtual network function (VNF) services as a service on any carrier network.
Businesses can easily and responsively update their network at a lower cost by using one of the many VNF services from the ESI marketplace.
ESI brings Internet bandwidth to enterprise WANs using software VPN over the Internet.
NTT i3 will launch the ESI field trial with NTT Group organizations including Dimension Data, NTT Communications, NTT DATA, Inc., and NTT (Service Innovation Laboratory Group) in April 2015. Several leading networking companies are expected to join the trial to co-develop NFV-based solutions leveraging their advanced VNF products and NTT–s global infrastructure.
“At NTT i3, we continue to build on our expertise of SDN and on our field experience with enterprise network integration and outsourcing. We strongly believe that this market leading implementation of NFV will exceed clients expectations in the transformation to a software-defined enterprise,” said Mayan Mathen, CTO, NTT Innovation Institute.
“NTT i3–s Elastic Services Infrastructure (ESI) approach and innovation brings automation to the traditional edge of the network, which is not available in the market today. It has the potential to streamline service operations, and allow clients to deploy relevant network and security technology in a seamless and highly automated manner, driven by a multitude of factors such as refreshing existing technology, deploying relevant technology to deal with a specific challenge at a point in time — or just to attain cost and operational benefits. Think of it as a forerunner to software defined networking at the edge,” said Ettienne Reinecke, CTO, Dimension Data.
“NTT Communications is committed to launching new services which create strong ROI for our customers. NTT i3–s R&D approach demonstrates that NTT Group is an industry-leading innovator for IT services,” said Takashi Ooi, Director, Member of the Board, Senior Vice President, NTT Communications.
“Juniper is excited to be part of the ESI platform, as it delivers on two major benefits of NFV — operational simplification and service agility. In addition, ESI brings best-of-breed networking services and infrastructure vendors together, which allows for rapid and iterative collaboration to deliver carrier-class network-as-a-service. This ability to deliver on-demand services like security, load balancing, caching and VPN capabilities from the cloud or customer premise without requiring new equipment or purpose-built appliances will provide significant economic benefits to NTT and its customers,” said Ankur Singla, VP and GM Cloud Software, Juniper Networks.
NTT i3 will exhibit ESI at the NTT R&D Forum 2015 in Tokyo, February 19 to February 20, 2015.
