FIPS is a U.S. federal government computer security standard, used by many agencies that deal with sensitive but unclassified (SBU) information. Not only does this ensure federal security compliance of all Avere products moving forward, but now any organization that wants to use FIPS-validated FreeBSD 9.2 OpenSSL software is free to do so.
