SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 12/10/14 — The, a cross-industry collaboration to advance the Internet of Everything through an open source software project, today announced major milestones that include commercial adoption of AllJoyn, investments from 100 organizations and significant technical initiatives. Together, these milestones put the AllSeen Alliance in a position to advance the market for devices enabled with AllJoyn and the Internet of Everything for all in the New Year.
Since its launch one year ago, the AllSeen Alliance has united industry leaders — from consumer electronics and home appliance makers to automotive companies and cloud providers — with the shared vision to advance the Internet of Everything through a common, open source platform. The Alliance is currently working on the third release for its open source framework, AllJoyn, with nine Working Groups formed to expand the protocol and address critical areas impacting interoperability for the Internet of Things (IoT), including lighting, home automation, security, cloud and analytics.
A variety of products today use AllJoyn to ensure interoperability among devices in homes and businesses, devices ranging from consumer electronics and lighting to sound systems and mobile applications. Microsoft just recently announced it will implement AllJoyn in Windows 10. Other products implementing the AllJoyn framework include Gramofon by Fon, LG televisions, LIFX smart LED light bulbs, Local Motors Rally Fighter, Musaic Wireless HiFi System, Powertech APPSTRIGGER smart socket and Panasonic ALL Series Wireless Speakers, among others. With the growing number of products using AllJoyn, the Alliance earlier this year introduced its “Designed for AllSeen” certification and compliance program to ensure consumers receive seamless, out-of-the-box interoperability for devices enabled with AllJoyn. The AllSeen Alliance has more than quadrupled its membership this year, including the addition of premier members Electrolux, Microsoft and Sony. The AllSeen Alliance this week announced eight new community members: ADT Security Services, GeoPal Solutions, Inteno Broadband Technology AB, Lenovo, Modacom, POWERTECH, Resin.io and Things.Expert. This extends the initiative–s core competencies in home automation and security and brings the total number of companies invested in this work to 11 premier members, 77 community members and 12 sponsored members. More details and comments from the newest members can be found .
The initial code contributions of AllJoyn have been augmented and advanced as a result of the collaborative work between Alliance members and the open source community. The AllSeen Alliance has formed nine that produce code to enhance AllJoyn and address critical areas impacting interoperability for the Internet of Everything. This includes QEO–s data-driven APIs and security enhancements contributed by Technicolor; new lighting service APIs and connected lighting framework from LIFX; a new gateway agent from Affinegy; software update services from Red Bend; analytics from Tellient; and a smart home service framework from Haier; among others.
“The Alliance–s first year has been tremendous, from the rapidly growing and diverse membership base to the technical enhancements for AllJoyn that delivers simple and open technology that connects everything,” said Philip DesAutels, senior director, IoT, the AllSeen Alliance. “What–s even more impressive is the community–s spirit of collaboration and desire to innovate collectively in order to move a critical market like IoT forward. I–m excited about the year ahead.”
