SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwired) — 12/10/14 — (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in intelligent Wi-Fi networking, today announced that UK government and legal services customers are using Meru 802.11ac Wi-Fi to support voice and video collaboration, the most demanding networked applications. Oxford Policy Management (OPM) and global law firm Eversheds LLP have deployed Meru wireless network solutions for their ability to handle high device densities and for seamless roaming.
OPM, which works with non-government organizations, government ministries and private sector companies, replaced its Aruba Wi-Fi with an 802.11ac Meru wireless network. The new Meru network supports use of Microsoft SharePoint® as well as voice and video conferencing over Wi-Fi. The 802.11ac network delivers incredible speeds, increasing performance even of OPM–s legacy 802.11n laptops.
“We–d outgrown our previous network and needed something faster and with better coverage that could grow with us,” said Iain McKeand, infrastructure engineer at OPM. “We regularly have meetings with more than 50 people using voice and video applications, which is when the Meru network really proves itself. In addition to the incredible speed we get with 802.11ac devices, the new wireless even delivers up to 300 Mbps throughput on our legacy 802.11n laptops — an added bonus that has led to some fantastic feedback from our users.”
Eversheds has deployed a Meru 802.11ac network across 20 offices in the UK, France, Middle East and Asia. The network supports up to 4,000 staff, clients and guests using a wide range of video and voice applications including Microsoft Lync®, which provides instant online conferencing. Workers use Lync for voice, video and shared content, allowing them to easily and quickly share ideas with colleagues and clients. Designed for global collaboration and to support a more flexible working environment at Eversheds– offices, the Meru Wi-Fi also supports staff using real-time time recording and document management solutions.
“Eversheds is in the process of moving to a more agile working model and it is important that we have the best wireless network,” said David Ball, head of IT at Eversheds. “Our previous Wi-Fi was no longer fit for corporate use, as it restricted the way staff worked and communicated while on the go. With Meru, we–re already seeing a huge difference in speed, performance and capacity.”
Meru Gold Partner Building Zones designed and installed the wireless networks for both organizations.
“The Meru solutions for Eversheds and OPM were designed to maximize the user experience and to future-proof their wireless networks for years to come,” said Jason Green, managing director for Building Zones. “Meru is renowned for its innovative approach to delivering high quality. The introduction of the new 802.11ac standard meant we could offer the perfect combination of speed, performance and capacity.”
“Organizations today are demanding more from their Wi-Fi networks and it–s becoming clear that outdated and poorly-designed legacy systems are simply not up to the job,” said Mark Howell, area director for UK and Ireland at Meru Networks. “Wireless is now the access network of choice for businesses, especially for global collaboration or video conferencing. Our 802.11ac solutions are supporting even the most demanding environments.”
