REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwired) — 12/09/14 — Qwilt, a world leader in online video delivery and open video caching solutions, will power the online video traffic delivered by leading New Zealand telcos Slingshot and Orcon. Qwilt–s Video Fabric Controller will be used by Slingshot and Orcon, both owned by New Zealand fixed line, voice, mobile and internet company, CallPlus, to cache and deliver online video traffic from a growing number of content providers, including Amazon, Apple, Hulu, Netflix and Twitch.
CallPlus selected Qwilt for the job because other vendors were unable to meet Slingshot and Orcon–s requirements for universal caching. Upon deploying Qwilt–s open caching technology, Slingshot and Orcon saw immediate savings in international transit costs and improved quality of experience (QoE) for its subscribers, when compared to competitive caching products.
“We are very focused on service delivery and building customer value. Because of this we are continually seeking ways to innovate and enhance our offerings,” said Adrian Dick, CallPlus CTO. “We have implemented other vendor caching products in the past, but none have addressed our caching performance and QoE requirements like Qwilt. Qwilt–s superior cache efficiency and ease of deployment achieved levels of performance that we never thought possible. We can–t imagine continuing without the gains their technology provides.”
Qwilt–s plug-and-play solution can be introduced quickly and easily into any network. Engineered specifically for high demands of online video delivery at the subscriber edge of a carrier network, the QB-Series detects and delivers online video at a rate at least 5x higher than any competing solution, and ensures disruption-free operation in the most bandwidth-intensive network environments.
“Operators worldwide are focused on solving the problem of online video growth and its impact on their networks,” said Alon Maor, CEO of Qwilt. “By eliminating the need for redundant video streams from origin sites or content delivery networks (CDNs) across the operator network, we are able to help operators improve QoE and minimize network strain and congestion, especially during peak viewing times. The result is a flawless, high-quality consumer viewing experience. We are pleased to work with Slingshot and Orcon to help them deliver on their ongoing commitment to innovation and unparalleled quality of experience.”
CallPlus offers a full range of communication services in both business and residential markets. In 2001, CallPlus was the first to bring VOIP to the market, in 2007 it was the first local carrier to deploy SIP Trunks, and in 2013, Slingshot, was the first ISP in New Zealand to market Global Mode. And now, with the help of Qwilt–s Video Fabric Controller, both Slingshot and Orcon will be able to maintain their standards of excellence and bring their customers the most innovative services.
