SEATTLE, WA — (Marketwired) — 10/29/14 — , the leading provider of contact information for people and businesses in the U.S., today announced it will be powering the next generation of T-Mobile–s Name ID service. Built right into the native phone experience, this new Whitepages offering provides T-Mobile users with the most advanced call and text identification system on the market, based on Whitepages– analysis of over 18 billion calls and texts made by its users, as well as over 300 million phone numbers in its contact database. The enhanced T-Mobile Name ID service powered by Whitepages will debut on the new Sony Xperia® Z3 smartphone, available today from T-Mobile.
According to a Consumer Call Blocking study conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Whitepages earlier this year, 60 percent of smartphone users who block calls do so because they are from an unknown number.
T-Mobile–s Name ID is a service available to customers to allow them to see the name and phone numbers of who is calling, even if they aren–t in the person–s address book. Starting today, the data provided by Whitepages now enables Sony Xperia® Z3 users with T-Mobile Name ID to also see a spam score, and a number of reports and comments from the Whitepages community for incoming calls identified as suspected spam. Consumers can also add their own comments on incoming spam calls to build out the Whitepages reputation database and help warn other users.
The new Whitepages offering also enables T-Mobile users to automatically and easily identify the person, business or spammer/scammer that is calling or texting — while the phone is still ringing — right on the incoming call screen so they can make real-time decisions to answer the call or send it to voicemail.
“What makes this next generation Whitepages powered solution so unique is that it is built right into the native phone and address book experience. It goes beyond call identification, providing features from search to call blocking to spam identification, giving users the tools they need to make the decision to answer an incoming call or text, which is important with the continued rise of mobile phone spam and fraudulent scams,” said Alex Algard, CEO, Whitepages. “Users will also see a drastic difference in their call history — what was once a list of unidentified numbers is now an informative catalog of names and contact information.”
IDENTIFY: Automatic identification of the person, business or spammer/scammer associated with an incoming call or text, even if they are not in the user–s address book or contact list, as well as additional information auto-surfaced for outbound calls. No more 10-digit numbers or unknown callers in the call history.
FIND: The ability to search for more information on millions of contacts and find more information on the caller or texter, including robust contact data, spam score and feedback from other users on numbers associated with spam or scams.
MANAGE: One-click for blocking or unblocking calls and texts, along with the ability to update your name and contact information for others to see.
The Whitepages powered T-Mobile Name ID solution will be offered on the Sony Xperia® Z3 smartphone at launch and new T-Mobile Android powered devices moving forward as a free introductory service for ten days. Users will then have the ability to continue the Whitepages powered T-Mobile Name ID service for a monthly subscription fee through T-Mobile.
