Russell Fleischer Joins Battery Ventures as Partner

BOSTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 10/16/14 — Russell Fleischer, a longtime technology-industry CEO who most recently served as chief executive of HighJump Software, has joined Battery Ventures as a partner.

In this role, Fleischer — who also has worked as a Battery “executive in residence” — will serve as a key member of Battery–s private-equity investing team, scouting new investment opportunities in various segments of the enterprise-software industry. Battery–s private-equity group targets mid-market, software and industrial-technology companies in the U.S., Europe and Israel and works with management teams to help those firms grow both organically and through acquisitions.

“I am thrilled to join Battery, a firm I–ve gotten to know well over the years and one I admire for its focus, work ethic and respect for company management,” said Fleischer, who left HighJump in July when the company was bought by fellow supply-chain management software company Accellos. “The firm has been a great partner to me as a CEO, and I look forward to collaborating with many more talented company builders in my new career as a professional investor.”

Battery was the main investor in HighJump and also owned a controlling stake in Fleischer–s previous company, Healthvision Solutions, a healthcare information-technology provider. That firm was acquired by Lawson Software in 2010. Under Fleischer–s leadership as CEO, Healthvision grew revenue from $25 million to $70 million and headcount from 100 to over 300 people.

“Russ has been an invaluable member of the Battery family for more than seven years. We are confident his operational expertise in all types of enterprise software — from ERP to financial technology to healthcare — will help him find and develop promising investment opportunities for us in his new role,” said Dave Tabors, a Battery general partner.

Prior to Healthvision, Fleischer was the CEO of TriSyn Group, a financial-technology company. He has been a board director for many public and private companies, including Adams Golf, HomeCareHomeBase, Vero Software, Data Innovations and Rogue Wave Software. He has a degree in economics from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from Vanderbilt. Fleischer will be based in Battery–s Boston office.

Battery invests in cutting-edge, category-defining businesses in markets including software and services, Web infrastructure, e-commerce, digital media and industrial technologies. Founded in 1983, the firm backs companies at stages ranging from seed to buyout and invests globally from offices in Boston, Silicon Valley and Israel.
