Media Alert: prpl Sessions at Embedded Linux Conference Europe to Highlight OpenWrt Collaboration, MIPS Enablement and More

SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/09/14 — The announced details of its participation in the Embedded Linux Conference Europe (ELCE), being held October 13 -15 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Members of the open source prpl Foundation will participate in a series of sessions, a development board raffle and technology showcase.

(pronounced “Purple”), an open-source, community-driven, collaborative, non-profit foundation targeting and supporting the MIPS architecture — and open to others — with a focus on enabling next-generation datacenter-to-device portable software and virtualized architectures.

prpl Foundation members will deliver three major presentations during ELCE, the premier vendor-neutral technical conference for companies and developers using Linux in embedded products. ELCE, now in its 8th year, has the largest collection of sessions dedicated to embedded Linux and embedded Linux developers. prpl presentations include:

MIPS enablement session: “The MIPS Creator CI20 Developer Board: Firing up the Community and Melting Servers,” presented by Ian Oliver, VP Developer Tools, Imagination. Mr. Oliver will discuss relevant tools, QEMU (Quick EMUlator; a free and open source hosted hypervisor performing hardware virtualization), kernel development support and more;

OpenWrt panel: panelists including Kathy Giori and Mathieu Olivari from Qualcomm Atheros, and Felix Fietkau and Luka Perkov from OpenWrt will discuss industry/community collaboration around OpenWrt, an embedded operating system based on the Linux kernel that–s primarily used on embedded devices to route network traffic;

Visionary session: “Emerging Security Paradigms for The Internet of Things, Cows, and Thieves – Solutions from the Open Source Community,” presented by Art Swift, president, prpl Foundation. Mr. Swift will focus on some of the less intuitive cyber-threats to the IoT, their implications, and how the open source community can help with solutions; he will also discuss how prpl is tackling these challenges from the ground-up.

prpl will also sponsor a raffle of three MIPS Creator CI20 boards, donated by Imagination Technologies, which will be awarded at one of these sessions.

According to Art Swift, president of prpl, “ELCE is an ideal forum to help foster awareness of prpl and its value in leveraging the combined resources of member companies to speed development across a range of markets and applications. Since a large majority of systems that use OpenWrt today are based on MIPS, it will also be a great place to connect with this audience and tell them about the extraordinary impact that prpl will have on their designs.”

All sessions will be held at the Congress Centre Dusseldorf:

MIPS enablement session: Monday, Oct. 13, 11:15 AM, Room 16

OpenWrt Panel: Tuesday, Oct. 14, 12:15 PM, Room 2

Visionary session: Wednesday, Oct. 15, 11:15 AM, Room 18
