Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2014 Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study

NASHUA, NH — (Marketwired) — 10/09/14 — Dresner Advisory Services today published its second annual Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The report examines Business Intelligence (BI) usage and in both small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs), and compares how their deployments and views differ from each other and from larger organizations.

A Small Enterprise is defined as an organization with between one and 100 employees, and a Mid-Sized Enterprise is an organization with between 101 and 1,000 employees. Smaller enterprises are more likely to indicate revenue growth and increased competitive advantage as the objectives for business intelligence, while larger organizations focus on operational efficiency. SMEs also report higher business intelligence penetration than large organizations, with smaller enterprises indicating higher penetration than their mid-sized counterparts.

SMEs have shown a high level of trust in the data in their organization, with more than one-third of small enterprises claiming governance at the level of –data is truth–. Small and Mid-Sized organizations also consider themselves slightly more capable in their ability to act on insights, employing closed loop processes or ad hoc actions based on BI insights. This is in contrast to larger enterprises where sharing is less coordinated.

“In 2013 we were the first research organization to shine the spotlight on the unique BI experience of the small and mid sized organizations,” said Howard Dresner, Founder and Chief Research Officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “Through the extensive input that we have gathered from BI users in multiple industries around the globe, we can extract the particular BI objectives of SME organizations and weigh those against BI trends within larger organizations, providing our readership with another dimension for evaluating and understanding the market.”

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. The report focuses on the responses of SME organizations and draws comparisons between their responses and those of the full sample.
