Eugene, OR – SDR releases a powerful reader program for a rare file type called SWF. The free swf player handles swf files which are created by Adobe. It is closely related to the Adobe FLV format but normal FLV players won’t be able to play it.
What’s the SWF File
Adobe once released the first default media player file format FLV files for internet usage and consumption but it has now been largely replaced by mp3 due to simplicity. FLV also produced a lot of bugs and errors [which usually affects quick and normal web browsing] when in use which adds to the resource being replaced in popularity.
But during those times, they also released another useful file format called SWF which stands for shockwave flash. There is also another technology called Shockwave from the same company, different from SWF but its direct predecessor as Adobe took inspiration in this file for derivation to SWF.
To avoid any future instances of confusion, they’ve decided to name it with the backronym Small Web Format instead of just using the simpler shockwave format [was also called Macromedia shockwave used for animation and was the predecessor of SWF].
But unlike its predecessor the Shockwave file format, SWF files can be played directly into any operating systems. Macromedia’s shockwave needs a separate installation in order to be opened.
SWF files, though easily readable are not an extremely popular options for normal video or audio viewing in local mode. SWF files are usually seen used and played online or with the use of the browser since it’s the default format for animation vector display graphics on the web today.
It’s use is usually geared toward gaming programs and its simplicity. Although there are other programs that may produce this simply for video viewing, it’s still difficult to open without any browser.
And to avoid this scenario again, SDR realized the need for a direct SWF player that has that very function. It’s very useful for users who frequently does vector animation without the use of Adobe’s premium suite services.
