Smart Recipe Platform Yummly Integrates With Apple–s HealthKit

REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/17/14 — Yummly (), the leading innovator in recipe search & discovery, announced today that users can now send nutrition information from recipes that they made or consumed directly to the Apple Health App with the new “Add to Health App” feature. Additionally, Yummly will use HealthKit data to further personalize each user–s Yummly experience. Yummly iPhone and iPad applications have also been updated to support the new iOS 8 operating system.

This new functionality is made possible because of Yummly–s proprietary food genome and patent-pending technology that is unlike any other services in the world. Regardless of web page markup or formatting, and with no effort by the user, Yummly can calculate the nutrition of a recipe. In addition, Yummly–s technology can determine a recipe–s taste, spiciness, cuisine, course, healthiness, preparation time, techniques, difficulty, the suitability for specific diets, allergies & occasions.

Yummly leverages this technology to build an unmatched user experience with features such as personalized recommendations, semantic search, and a smart shopping list. This combination of data and technology applied to food results in the #1 recipe apps for both iPhone and iPad.

“Mobile plays a key role in how people track what they eat, keep tabs of their activity, sleep patterns and even blood pressure, making Apple–s HealthKit and the Health App major new platforms for developers to innovate on,” said Brian Witlin, chief operating officer of Yummly. “With this new functionality and ability to connect to the network of other health and lifestyle apps via Health App to get deeper sets of data to benefit the user, Yummly can in turn provide the user with a better experience within our app.”

This iOS update goes beyond just the features of what you can do with Apple–s Health app, including:

By providing access to health kit data, a user will get improved recipe recommendations on Yummly.

This version of the app will support the latest and greatest operating system from Apple.

In addition to improvements overall, most notably, Yummly has made significant improvements to the syncing function on the shopping list.

Yummly has added more than 6,500 recipes for users to –Yum–

Our technology already allows for superior discovery, inspiration and personalization and with this integration this will put us in a position to think of other ways to make food personal and adapted to a consumer, their family and friends,” said Dave Feller, CEO and co-founder of Yummly. “We envision more data being connected to Yummly through a bigger and more powerful ecosystem of trackable health, medicine and fitness.”
