VICTORIA, BC and MANCHESTER, NH — (Marketwired) — 12/05/13 — , the North American subsidiary of UNIT4, the global leader in software that supports business change, today announced that the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) has selected the company-s UNIT4 Agresso Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to help position itself for growth. The agreement consists of fully-integrated capabilities including financial management, procurement, travel expenses, business process automation and comprehensive reporting.
Established through an act of provincial legislation in 2009, OCOT-s mandate is to modernize Ontario-s skilled trades system to meet the needs of a 21st century economy. As it developed, the fledgling organization quickly outgrew the business tools originally put in place. Its existing financial software required ongoing manual intervention to maintain interfaces to other systems, introduced security risks and lacked the flexibility to adjust to OCOT-s rapidly evolving business requirements.
“We were looking for an enterprise solution that could automate our business processes and allow us to easily modify them as our requirements change,” states Rohit Deengar, Controller & Manager of Finance at OCOT. “As a new organization, our business processes are always changing as we refine and improve our operations. We are also growing rapidly and adding new systems, such as our membership system and this creates added layers of complexity. will help us automate and secure our existing processes and, more importantly, modify them or add new processes whenever we need,” he adds.
Agresso is unique in the ERP market, known for its “post-implementation agility” — the ability for business users (rather than programmers) to modify the system, even after it has been implemented. “OCOT presents the ideal scenario for Agresso,” says Shelley Zapp, CEO of UNIT4 Business Software. “Their goal to make apprenticeships and skilled trades competitive and responsive to industry demands involves constantly moving goal posts. Agresso will help OCOT evolve business processes, without roadblocks or disruption, and will provide the controls necessary to ensure accountability.”
As an independent, industry-driven body, the Ontario College of Trades is raising the profile of, and promoting involvement in skilled trades. It is making the system of apprenticeship training more responsive to the evolving skills and training needs of Ontario employers and consumers. Its goal is to encourage more men and women to work in trades and give the industry a greater role in governance, certification and training.
