PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/20/13 — HP (NYSE: HPQ) — today announced that China Mobile Limited, the leading mobile services provider in Mainland China, has selected to power the search capability of its strategic Wireless City platform, which allows users to access information on thousands of public services directly from their mobile phones.
China Mobile Limited, along with its subsidiaries, boasts the world-s largest mobile network and the world-s largest mobile customer base with approximately 740 million subscribers as of July 2013. China Mobile is calling the creation and development of the Wireless City its most critical project during the country-s five-year economic development initiative that began in 2011.
“Much of the success of Wireless City depends on the users- ability to quickly find information and harness the full potential of the platform,” said Cao Yang, project manager, Wireless City, China Mobile. “HP Autonomy stood out by having a great support infrastructure. We believe that the unique conceptual search capabilities of HP IDOL can help us deliver an unmatched experience and a highly valuable service to our customers.”
With the integration of HP IDOL-s unique conceptual search technology, Wireless City users can search through more than 8,000 applications for public service information, and receive more accurate results than ever before. Information available to users through Wireless City includes most public services, like public transportation schedules, public health records and traffic offenses.
HP IDOL uses advanced pattern-matching technology to understand key concepts in all forms of information, including free text, video, audio, image, social media and the web. Unlike traditional, keyword-dependent systems, HP IDOL retrieves all relevant information that is conceptually related to a query, going beyond search to help users discover information they may not know to look for.
As a result, China Mobile customers benefit from a much more helpful and powerful service, which delivers the most relevant and useful information to the consumer, regardless of the terms they use in the search.
HP IDOL currently powers China Mobile-s official website search features, and is in use by several provincial companies within the China Mobile Group.
“Search is often the most used feature in an application, and can play a significant role in differentiating your organization in terms of customer experience,” said Rohit de Souza, general manager, Information Analytics and Search, HP Autonomy. “HP IDOL-s accurate search results will extend credibility to Wireless City and encourage China Mobile users to rely on the platform for all public services information.”
