SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/20/13 — The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced its 2013 Holiday Individual Membership Drive in which it will donate $25 to the for emperor penguins for every new member who joins today through 11:59 p.m. PT on December 10, 2013.
The penguin is widely known as the Linux mascot, affectionately referred to as The Linux Foundation this year in its Holiday Individual Membership Drive is offering members the opportunity to make a difference for two important causes: advancing Linux and protecting the habitat for the emperor penguin.
Individual members of The Linux Foundation help advance the Linux operating system and support the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds. They join nearly 10,000 developers from more than 1,000 companies(1) who build Linux every day. Emperor penguins live on the floating ice packs and islands of Antarctica. The emperor penguin is the deepest diving penguin, capable of reaching depths of 1,700 feet. Climate change and habitat loss pose great risks for these animals.
