2013 Health IT Leadership Summit Sees Record Attendance

ATLANTA, GA — (Marketwired) — 11/14/13 — The Health IT Leadership Summit, held earlier this week at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta, saw record-breaking attendance. More than 670 attendees converged on the historic Fox Theatre for the fourth annual event, a day filled with educational sessions and networking with industry leaders from some of healthcare IT-s largest companies.

Once again hosted by Verizon, Summit sessions covered a number of challenges facing healthcare IT leaders today, including healthcare reform, patient engagement, big data and predictive analytics, social networking, and disruptive technologies and innovations. The 2013 Intel Innovation Award was presented to Greenway Medical Technologies for its PrimeMOBILE app, which provides caregivers with mobile access to patient data housed in Greenway-s electronic health record, practice management and interoperability solution platform. Finalists also included Bioscape Digital, IPG and Velocity Medical.

“We-re extremely proud to receive this award recognizing Greenway-s innovation and its benefits for our customers,” said Johnathan Samples, Executive Vice President of Innovation at Greenway. “Healthcare is an increasingly agile industry, with care delivered in hospitals, clinics, doctors- offices and many other locations. PrimeMOBILE gives physicians secure access to patient information virtually anywhere, anytime for better coordinated care and more informed, timely decisions to improve the health of their patients.”

The Metro Atlanta Chamber presented its Phoenix Awards to Bird Blitch, CEO of Patientco, for Startup Company of the Year; Jeff Arnold, CEO of Sharecare, for Emerging Company of the Year; Dennis White, Chairman of the Georgia Health Information Network, for Community Leader of the Year; and Stephen Fleming, Vice President and Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute-s Interoperability and Integration Innovation Lab (I3L), for University Advancement of the Year.

Student HIT Innovation awards were presented to teams from Needwood Middle School and Meadowcreek High School for “healthy lifestyle” mobile apps or mobile optimized websites that connect people with opportunity, information and resources on preventing childhood obesity.

“We-re extremely pleased to have been able to honor future and present healthcare IT leaders alike with these awards, and with the record-breaking attendance at this year-s Health IT Leadership Summit,” said incoming 2014 Summit Chairman T. Talliaferro Smith, Healthcare Development/Regulatory Affairs at Rubbermaid Healthcare. “It shows that healthcare IT stakeholders now, more than ever, need to better understand the challenges and opportunities their peers are facing in every sector of this industry. The fact they are willing to devote a day out of their busy schedules to attend the Summit tells me we-ll need to make it even more valuable next year.”

Founded by TAG Health — a society of the Technology Association of Georgia, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the Bioscience-Health IT Leadership Council, the Health IT Leadership Summit is held annually in Atlanta, the nation-s health IT capital, and continues to rank as one of the nation-s premier health IT events. Each Summit has brought together business executives, healthcare providers, and public and private organizations in an effort to foster collaboration among leaders from every part of the healthcare continuum.
