PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/13/13 — Ayasdi () and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory () today announced a collaboration to jointly pursue the creation of novel applications based on Ayasdi technology to enable breakthrough insights from complex data sets. and Ayasdi have agreed to collaborate on a range of projects in the areas of energy, climate change, medical technology, and national security.
The collaboration with Ayasdi is part of LLNL-s effort to apply new data analysis capabilities and ensure LLNL-s leadership in modeling, simulation and big data computing. LLNL will use Ayasdi-s platform to discover and explore insights from data and build new applications for LLNL-s research programs based on those discoveries. And by working with LLNL, Ayasdi-s government agency customers will have the opportunity to use Ayasdi-s technology in a more efficient and streamlined fashion for both unclassified and classified projects.
“A big challenge for many organizations today is to extract patterns, information and knowledge from large, complex and multi-dimensional data sets,” said Anantha Krishnan, Director of LLNL-s Office of Mission Innovation. “By combining LLNL-s powerful computing and scientific infrastructure with Ayasdi-s innovative machine learning platform, we aim to better understand the information in complex data sets that, previously, we could only comprehend in limited or abstract ways.”
“This collaboration has the potential to unlock insights of tremendous value to some of the most challenging and critical issues of our time,” said Gurjeet Singh, Co-Founder and CEO of Ayasdi. “Together, LLNL and Ayasdi can transform the way organizations understand and mine their data and turn insights into actions.”
Ayasdi-s is designed for domain experts, scientists and business people to automatically find insights from complex data and operationalize them to help organizations solve difficult and expensive problems. Ayasdi-s unique approach combines advanced machine learning techniques with a branch of mathematics called (TDA) to discover insights without coding, scripting, or manually querying. Ayasdi-s technology also utilizes an ensemble of best-of-breed algorithms, automatically maps entire datasets (both structured and unstructured), and quickly provides the most relevant and statistically valid insights.
LLNL is a National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) research and development laboratory dedicated to national security. Lawrence Livermore is home to some of the world-s most powerful supercomputers and the resident high performance computing (HPC) expertise LLNL requires to fulfill its security missions in stewardship of the United States- nuclear deterrent and homeland security. LLNL also applies its world-class HPC capabilities to such national and global challenges as energy and climate change as well as basic science. The complexity of the science and engineering problems NNSA labs address requires Lawrence Livermore and other national labs to work with industry and academia to advance the state-of-the-art in high performance computing.
Founded in 1952, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory provides solutions to our nation-s most important national security challenges through innovative science, engineering and technology. Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is managed by Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy-s National Nuclear Security Administration.
Ayasdi is transforming how the world uses data to solve complex problems. Founded in 2008 after a decade of research at Stanford, DARPA, and NSF, Ayasdi is pioneering a new approach for enterprises to automatically discover and operationalize insights from their data. Ayasdi-s Insight Discovery platform uses Topological Data Analysis (TDA) combined with an ensemble of machine learning techniques to enable data scientists, domain experts, and business people to achieve value from their data without the need to write code, queries, or ask questions. Funded by Khosla Ventures, Institutional Venture Partners, GE Ventures, Citi Ventures, and FLOODGATE, Ayasdi-s customers include General Electric, Citigroup, Merck, Anadarko, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and Mount Sinai Hospital.
