WEST KINGSTON, RI — (Marketwired) — 11/12/13 — Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced completion of TierPoint-s Seattle-based data center expansion. Schneider Electric-s Mission Critical Services group and Data Center Service Provider team managed the design, engineering, construction and final commissioning of the new data center in just eleven weeks.
“We presented an almost impossible challenge — to design and build an expansion of this magnitude, under a deadline as tight as ours, could have been a recipe for disaster,” says Will Riffle, VP & General Manager of TierPoint Seattle. “Schneider Electric-s ability to design and engineer custom solutions, and pull together the right external parties to meet every unique challenge along the way, proved indispensable to launching on time and on budget.”
To meet TierPoint-s increasing market demand for services in Seattle, Schneider Electric had just eleven weeks to convert a floor of TierPoint-s Fisher Plaza facility, previously used as office space, into 10,000 square feet of raised floor space and 2.0 megawatts of 2N critical load. Additionally, as part of a multi-tenant building, service to other customers could not be interrupted during construction.
Schneider Electric collaborated with several partners, such as McKinstry Mechanical, Prime Electric, Degenkolb Engineering and WorkSafe, to facilitate the installation of overweight data center infrastructure equipment onto ball bearing isolation platforms; develop a solution for water delivery and distribution for cooling units; retrofit the existing office floor into a raised floor; and adhere to strict regulations and building codes.
“Our ability to manage projects from the preliminary planning stages to final commissioning and launch is a key strength of the Mission Critical Services group,” says John Fithian, Director of Data Center Solutions for Schneider Electric. “We have the experience and expertise to provide a comprehensive strategy that identifies the right resources and solutions in creative ways to meet tight deadlines, even under unique facility challenges.”
The new facility also includes Schneider Electric Structural Isolation Systems, Square D Switchgear, 500kW Symmetra PX, APC PDU 300kVA, Modular Remote Power Panels and a Power Monitoring and Building Automation System.
