SAN MATEO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/11/13 — , a patient advocacy-focused software company, has donated the use of its web-based, point-of-service screening program to the to support the important and much-needed service it provides to the community.
The Clinic was founded to address the unmet health care needs of immigrants with limited English proficiency. The Clinic staff, consisting of Stanford volunteers — including undergraduates, medical students, and physicians — uses PointCare-s 90-second screening quiz to identify available health coverage program options and provide guidance to the uninsured on the enrollment process. With information provided by PointCarePA, screened patients leave the clinic feeling less worried about securing prompt access to health care.
PointCarePA organizes the fragmented health coverage system by providing real-time eligibility, coverage, and application information for several thousand U.S. health coverage programs. The web-based screening, navigation, and enrollment software-s database not only includes every state-s Medicaid & CHIP programs, private plans, and Affordable Care Act-Exchange options, it also takes into consideration additional state and federal programs, as well as facility charity care, sliding scale, and grant programs. To date, more than 500,000 uninsured individuals have been screened with the system, giving them the ability to successfully navigate today-s complex health insurance system.
The Pacific Free Clinic provides services and health coverage screenings to an average of 25-40 uninsured patients per Saturday when they operate. To date, 74% of those screened were able to identify one or more programs for which they were eligible to receive. Patients who do not qualify for health coverage, perhaps because of income, can find out about additional programs, such as local Food Bank eligibility, making it an essential safety net for the organization.
“Pacific Free Clinic does outstanding work in its community,” noted Phil Lebherz, Founder and CEO of PointCare. “We are honored to help them continue their efforts by donating the use of PointCarePA.”
“PointCare has been great for us,” said Pacific Free Clinic Insurance Enrollment Co-Chair, Christine Yeh. “The supplemental screening tool helps us catch patients that slip through our initial screening. The results have let us refer patients Medi-Cal and other programs that we really would not have found beforehand. They also regularly update the database so new programs continually show up ensuring we don-t miss options for our patients.”
Founded in 2012, PointCare is a patient advocacy-focused software company, dedicated to helping hospitals, community health centers, doctors, and third party vendors educate uninsured patients about health coverage options at point-of-care and during community outreach.
