LAS VEGAS, NV — (Marketwired) — 10/23/13 — (NYSE: CALX) today announced the addition of the E5-48 and E5-48C Ethernet Service Access Nodes (ESANs) and the new VDSL2-48D line card for the modular Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) to the Calix Unified Access portfolio. Optimized to help communications service providers unlock their copper assets with extraordinary flexibility and high VDSL2 port density, these new additions to the E-Series enhance both the portfolio-s vectoring and bonding capabilities and small form factor deployment options.
“Communications service providers globally continue to engage in fiber forward strategies to shorten loop lengths, drive faster broadband speeds over the remainder of their copper infrastructure, and remain competitive,” said Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst at Broadbandtrends. “However, implementation of these strategies presents new challenges as service providers address issues related to product placement, rights-of-way, powering, and scalability. These small form factor, highly flexible, E-Series solutions provide a variety of new options for pushing more advanced broadband services out to subscribers served by copper infrastructure, as well as key service enhancement features like vectoring and bonding that can significantly increase service performance.”
The E7-2 VDSL2-48D line card adds another complementary deployment option to the modular E7-2, the industry-s densest small form factor VDSL2 solution. With two 48 port data-only cards deployed in a single E7-2 chassis, Calix customers will be able to support up to 96 ports of VDSL2 in 1 rack unit (RU). The E7-2 VDSL2-48D also supports two gigabit Ethernet (GE) or 2.5 GE interfaces, as well as two 10 GE interfaces, with the protocol flexibility to support link aggregation, rapid spanning tree protocol (RSTP), and Ethernet ring protection switching (ERPS). Environmentally hardened for remote terminal as well as data center / central office deployment, this new card option for the E7-2 is ideal for service providers with voice over IP (VoIP) Internet access devices (IADs) deployed at the subscriber premises — a growing market among competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and large service providers.
The 1RU fixed-form factor of the E5-48 and E5-48C makes these solutions ideal platforms for deploying in cabinets that are limited in space. Complemented by the variety of VDSL2 cards for the E7-2 and the vectoring-enabled, sealed E3 ESANs, service providers can select from a number of form factor options to find the best fit for their networks.
“As service providers extend the life of their copper networks through new technologies such as VDSL2 bonding and vectoring, Calix continues to deliver a wide variety of options to meet any deployment scenario,” said John Colvin, Calix senior vice president of North American sales and marketing. “With the addition of these three new VDSL2 solutions to the E-Series portfolio, service providers can now match the right product to virtually any network challenge.”
Calix will be exhibiting and showcasing all of its new copper solutions at TelcoVision in Booth 909.
