The new design extends Ikanos- reach into the entry-level gateway segment, furthering its lead in gateway processors for both emerging and maturing markets. GIGABYTE Technology is the first to adopt the new design and provide a solution. The Fusiv®-powered home gateway will serve emerging markets in South America, Australia, Southeast Asia, and Asia, where carriers are deploying, or planning to deploy, FTTx with VDSL2 to upgrade current ADSL customers or to increase deployments of fixed-line broadband service in previously underserved areas. Ikanos is showcasing GIGABYTE-s implementation of the turn-key design at Broadband World Forum 2013, held October 22 – 24, in Amsterdam.
The Fusiv® Vx183 VDSL2 reference design is offered in a compact and cost-optimized form factor. The benefits of the Fusiv® distributed offload architecture are maintained, allowing for best-in-class QoS, carrier-grade voice, and host processor power to manage value-added services and applications. Additionally, the new home gateway design will benefit from Ikanos- inSIGHT Broadband eXperience Manager (BXM), which runs on an offload processor independent of the host. inSIGHT gives consumers and carrier personnel an intuitive user interface that enables quick, local or remote resolution of noise interference and wiring problems such as improperly connected microfilters, wire cuts, or corroded wiring, minimizing the need for service calls or truck rolls, and resulting in lower carrier OpEx and an improved consumer Quality of Experience.
The GIGABYTE platform based on this design integrates the basic wired and wireless interfaces needed for entry-level gateway markets and includes options for more advanced features such as gigabit Ethernet and dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi. This enables GIGABYTE with fast time to market and the ability to support multiple carrier needs with a common platform.
